The structural disadvantage in the quest to save democracy.

Hamilton and the other founders believed that the electors would be able to ensure that only a qualified person becomes President. They thought that with the Electoral College no one would be able to manipulate the citizenry. It would act as a check on an electorate that might be duped. Hamilton and the other founders did not trust the population to make the right choice.

Epic fail. Alex must have spun in his grave when the Orange Fraud made a mockery of his precautions.

They naively thought they could negate the power of “factions “ ( political parties )

They were wrong and that error colors everything

Seperations of powers to quell that. Checks and Balances. Intended that one party never control all three forcing compromise.

Enumerated Powers being a main stay. States to rule themselves Fed duties limited.

Political parties didn't exist at the time of the country's birth.

And yet because of the gravely outdated EC (and McTreason's treachery) Repubs controlled all three branches of government shortly after the Orange Menace was appointed prez.

Mercy! This is fun!

Gonna be more fun when the adults take back control.

Start building those large mental institutions!

.
There are already large mental institutions.

The one where you were housed failed when they let you out.

The Election Is Rigged All Right … FOR Trump (actually, all Repub presidential candidates)

A good reminder from Gerald F. Seib of the structural advantages Donald Trump and Republicans continues to enjoy heading into 2024:

What is the consequence of this structural advantage? The disastrous presidencies of Dubya and the Orange Menace. The Crazy running amok in the House (that one's due to gerrymandering). Congressional dysfunction and gridlock. A SC packed with extremist conservatives. The possibility an unqualified despot and potential felon could be re-elected.
The Republican advantage is the anti-majoritarian nature of America’s representative democracy – where the presidency is determined not by the people but by the states; that control of the Senate is determined not by the people but by the states; and by extension, control of the Supreme Court is determined by the states, not the people.

Consequently, the will of the majority of the people is not expressed at the Federal level; the anti-majoritarian nature of America’s representative democracy has been exploited by Republicans to establish the tyranny of Republican minority rule and governance contrary to the will of the majority of the people.
