The Roman Catholic Church changed the Ten Commandments

Apr 14, 2013 | Truth, Uncategorized | 55 comments
The Roman Catholic Church even changed the Ten Commandments which God wrote on two stone tablets.

The Ten Commandments changed by the Roman Catholic Church — They took away the 2nd commandment, “You shall not make idols.” They also changed the Sabbath day into Lord’s Day (Sunday.) And the 10th commandment was divided into two.

The papacy insists that it has the authority to change God’s laws
Why did the Roman Catholic Church change the Ten Commandments written in the Bible? They took away the second commandment, “You shall not make for yourself an idol.” God prohibited idolatry through the commandment, “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below, and you shall not bow down to them or worship them.” However, the Catholic Church set up cross images, and made and worshiped Mary and Saints statues. They have a doctrine that contradicts the commandment, “You shall not make idols.” In the eyes of the Catholic Church, the 2nd commandment was a prickly one. After all, they took away the 2nd commandment.
They also changed the 4th commandment from “Keep the Sabbath day” to “Keep the Lord’s Day.” If the Sabbath were the same day with Sunday which is called the “Lord’s Day,” they would not have changed it to “Keep the Lord’s Day.” The Roman Catholic Church introduced the Sunday service into the church. They had no choice but to change the Ten Commandments in order to stick to the day of sun-worship.
The 10th commandment, “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house,” includes “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house, your neighbor’s wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.” However, the number of the Ten Commandments reduced to 9 because the 2nd commandment was abolished. So the Catholic Church divided by force the 10th commandment into two: “You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife” and “You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods.”
The reason the Catholic Church changed the Ten Commandments is because they violated squarely the Ten Commandments, the Word of God. The right faith is that they correct their behaviors if they are against the words of God. For this, we look at the Word of God. But, the Roman Catholic Church changed the Word of God when they found their acts deviated from the Word of God.
The Bible says that the one who will speak against God will change the laws of God.

just ANOTHER reason the RCC is not Jesus' church.

Strange. In my Catholic Bible Exodus 20 says all of that, that you claim has been “changed”.

Or it could be the OP is full of it, yet again.

From the New Catholic Bible translation:

Chapter 20

The Ten Commandments.[a] 1 God spoke all these words:

2 “I am the Lord, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of that place of slavery. 3 You shall not have other gods instead of me. 4 You shall not make idols or any image of things that are in the heavens above or that are upon the earth or that are in the waters under the earth. 5 You shall not bow before them nor shall you serve them. I, the Lord, am your God, a jealous God, who punishes the sins of fathers upon their sons until the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, 6 but I will show my favor for a thousand generations of those who love me and observe my commandments.

7 “You shall not take the name of the Lord, your God, in vain, for the Lord will not leave unpunished those who use his name in vain.

8 “Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.9 Six days you shall labor and do your work,10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath in honor of the Lord your God. You shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male slave, nor your female slave, nor your animals, nor the foreigner who dwells with you. 11 The Lord made the heavens and the earth and the seas and that which is in them in six days, but he rested the seventh day. Thus, the Lord blessed the Sabbath and declared it to be sacred.

12 “Honor your father and your mother so that your days may be lengthened in the land that the Lord your God, will give you.

13 “You shall not kill.

14 “You shall not commit adultery.

15 “You shall not steal.

16 “You shall not give false witness against your neighbor.

17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male slave, nor his female slave, nor his oxen, nor his donkey, nor anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

As you can see there are a lot more than just ten actual commands. But some are typically summarized, logically. But different churches summarize them differently. They do not change anything in the Bible.

Then of course Jesus ruined everything by giving us two ultimate commandments: to love God, and to love thy neighbor.

when you walk into a catholic church the first thing you may notice is statues with people kneeling before them praying....thats why they changed the 2nd....

just ANOTHER reason the RCC is not Jesus' church.
FYI, the Ten Commandments were probably not written in modern English and every translation distorts the original. They were likely changed when the oral traditions were first written down. Then they were changed by the translators of the original Hebrew into Greek then into Latin and then into English. What we have today are likely very different from the original words.

just ANOTHER reason the RCC is not Jesus' church.

the rcc is the 4th century - state religion of the roman (christian) empire - their book is written by the crucifiers.

the 1st century is the repudiation of judaism, the heredity idolatry of abraham and the false claim by the liar moses of stone tablets etched w/ heavenly commandments ...

as taught by jesus - they both crucified.

the golden rule, religion of antiquity is all that is necessary if completed for judgement and admission to the everlasting.

Then of course Jesus ruined everything by giving us two ultimate commandments: to love God, and to love thy neighbor.
He didn’t ruin anything. He was being played by the religious leaders trying to trap him. So, stated the 10 Commandments in two statements. Love the Lord thy God with all your heart, mind, might and strength. And, love they neighbor as thyself. The 10 all fit nicely into those two. And the religious leaders were silenced.

The Catholic Church is 2000 years old.

The Protestant churches are 500 years old.

Isn't it more likely that the Protestants are the ones who changed the 10 Commandments?

the protestants were those in the 1st century who gave their lives w/ jesus who taught liberation theology, self determination as the means for admission to the everlasting - the same heavenly religion of antiquity granted a&e ...

- not mentioned or included in the phony 4th century christian bible, the state religion of the roman empire ... aka - the catholic church..

Interestingly enough, the protestants in these latter days attempted to turn back the clock and restore the doctrines and ordinances to when Jesus Christ and the Apostles taught and preached. They have messed this up royally as much as the Catholic Church formed in the 4th or 6th Century did and continued to.

As far as the 10 Commandments, the oldest known writings of the 10 Commandments are in the Dead Sea Scrolls. They have 10 Commandments, not like the Catholic Church does.

NO, THE CATHOLICS DID. Did you do any research?

The Bible says that the one who will speak against God will change the laws of God.
He will speak against the Most High and oppress his saints and try to change the set times and the laws [GNT: their religious laws and festivals]. The saints will be handed over to him for a time, times and half a time. (Daniel 7:25)

After His Resurrection, Sunday was held sacred as the Lord's day in remembrance of His Resurrection on that day (see Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 16:2). From that time on, His followers observed the first day of the week as their Sabbath.

There are scholars who are constantly attempting to improve the translations as we accumulate more examples from the relevant times. The claim that the RC Church has changed the Bible for some nefarious reason is too lame to rebut. How about this:

Thou Shalt not kill murder.

Universally agreed to be a correction, not a change.

I would say a clarification. Killing in war is necessary to Provo against those who seek your death. So, not a correction.

17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male slave, nor his female slave, nor his oxen, nor his donkey, nor anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
#17 may be separated into 2 as well or even more. The 1st line could refer to not taking a person’s physical property by “squatting.” We see squatters all the time now stealing homes from people and the governments allowing it or making it nearly impossible to throw the squatters out.
