The right to vote

A test before you get the right to vote?

  • Yes

    Votes: 15 39.5%
  • No

    Votes: 23 60.5%

  • Total voters
    38
Do government policies affect those of lower IQ's? Then they should vote. And what unbiased source would test people in the first place?

Government polices often effect dogs but you don't let them vote.
I don't believe you should have the right to vote if you can't understand what you're voting for.
As far as America goes, you have often amended the constitution; do it again.

Dogs are incapable of higher reasoning

So are many voters.
Other than the constitution, and that can be amended, I have yet to see a valid argument against my proposal.

You're making an ass of yourself, junior. I've already told you why but you're too fucking stupid to read and understand. You want so badly to be a racist douche that you are playing the clown without even realizing it. So, in addition to being a pussy and a cowardly racist, you've proven yourself to be a brain dead piece of shit. You've got it all, kid.

Exactly the reasons why I believe the vote should be restricted to the intelligent.

Here's a better idea.

How about EDUCATION?

You know, instead of the traditional subjects taught in schools, how about teaching things that are actually useful in the modern world.

I'd say civic participation, rights, and things like this, perhaps moving on to politics from the point of view of the voter in late teens.
But not only that, teaching skills that people actually need, like looking at information from sources and making decisions, and things like this..

They already do that.

Really?

There's a difference between doing something, and doing something properly. US education standards aren't that great in many places, especially in places like the deep south.

The right to vote shall no be infringed ....

The right is assumed.

Same wording as: The right to bear arms shall not be infringed ....

So the right to vote is well-established.
And you can't deny that right based on the inability to pass a test, or pay a tax.

But I have no problem with a photo ID - as long as they are free and easy to obtain.

The Electors shall meet in their respective states and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President

Everything else is an amendment and amendments can be amended.

There is nothing in the original to say who can vote, just the voters.
That can be redefined to suit.

Congress will not submit such an amendment to the States. Further there is no way the majority of voters in 37 States ( that's what it takes to pass an amendment) will ever agree to limit their own voting rights.

That would be because you refuse to address the valid arguments by ignoring them and deleting them from quotes.

The Constitution is the valid argument against your proposal.

Our Constitutional rights, including the right to vote, are inalienable – that means they can be neither taken nor bestowed by any government, constitution, or man. It means these rights are innate, they manifest as consequent of our humanity, and they predate the American government and Constitution, where the Constitution acknowledges and codifies this fact.

Consequently, Federal, state, and local governments lack the authority to place undue, unwarranted burdens on the right to vote, such as an ‘IQ test.’

Again, you’re arguing unsuccessfully that the government or the people have the authority to place undue, unwarranted restrictions on the inalienable right to vote – they do not. The ‘amendment process’ has nothing to do with this fact, nor does it mitigate the inalienable right to vote absent undue, unwarranted restrictions.

The constitution says every citizen has a right to vote...
The Constitution doesn't actually say that, and it doesn't require Photo ID either.

Nor does it stop anyone from requiring a photo ID. Two sides to every coin my friend.

Exactly. And therein lies the rub. Frankly, I'm all for showing ID. You have to show ID to get on a plane, cash a check on and on...

I have never understood the left's fascination with disallowing voter ID. Never made a lick of sense to me. All this crap about "poor people would be excluded" is nonsense. Bet you a silver dollar that they have proper ID to collect their "winnings" at the local casino each month...of course then again - all those dead people in Chicago would no longer be able to vote.

Should voters have to take a test to be able to vote? No. It would be bad for certain blocs of voters (depending on who wrote the test), and every citizen should be allowed to have their voice heard.

Should there be a law requiring an ID? Again, no, because then people would start disallowing certain types of ID's like they did to a lot of college kids, because although they had a college ID, they couldn't use them to cast their votes. Either allow ALL ID's, or drop the requirement.

However.................................................

Just like I had to take a test to be allowed to join the Navy (ASVAB), and many colleges require you to take a test to be granted admission (SATs), anyone who is seeking office SHOULD be required to take a basic civics test showing they have a decent understanding of how our government works, as well as what is contained in the Constitution whenever they pay their filing fees to run for office.

I mean.......................quite a few jobs require you to take an aptitude test when you apply for employment as well.

At least then, regardless if you're a low information voter or not, you could at least rest secure in the knowledge that the person you're voting for understands the job that they are seeking your vote for.

If you don't consider being an informed voter as important as being an actual representative then you don't understand the big picture at all.

So, how is having to show an ID at the ballot box a "test" actually? All you do is

1) Pull out your wallet/purse

2) Take out your ID

3) Show it to the voting official to have it verified against a national database

4) Put it away

5) If your ID is authentic, go vote!

No test.

It's not so much the ID requirement that I object to, but rather the types of ID's they'll allow and won't allow.

Many college students were told they couldn't use their college photo ID to vote, even though they were citizens.

State issued ID/Driver's license should be all you need. All you need do is go to your DMV to get one. If you don't have one, get one. If you're illegal, you know the drill. It's fairly simple, Biker. Pretty harmless.

Only problem with that one is that not everyone drives, so not everyone has a driver's license, and even if you went to get one, they generally cost you 50 plus dollars, and not everyone has that in their pockets.

State issued ID's, while they cost less (around 30 bucks), again, not everyone has the ability to go to the places where they can be issued, nor do they have the cash to get one, because the money is going for stuff like rent, utilities, food, etc.

Most people who make minimum wage live paycheck to paycheck.

Me? I think that you should be able to walk up with your SSN card, license, college ID, or whatever you've got that says who you are.

College IDs that any illegal alien, non-voting felon, or other ineligible 'voter' could make using the cheapest of home printers in about 20 minutes?

What a crock of crap. State ID's are generally free (at least in the states that I have lived in) and this nonsense about "they don't have the money for one" is crap. They have money for cigarettes, for liquor, for casinos, for marijuana and on and on. If you can't afford an ID - then you can't vote, or get on a plane, or cash a check, or any of the rest of those activities that require an ID.

People who live on minimum wage can still afford to get drunk. It's BS and you know it. It's always the liberals who come up with this crap.
