The right to vote

A test before you get the right to vote?

  • Yes

    Votes: 15 39.5%
  • No

    Votes: 23 60.5%

  • Total voters
    38
Why should you have to know Civics to vote?

All you need to know is who best represents your needs

The true test of political savvy is knowing that your right to vote and it be counted is always in danger from the same people who would revolt to protect the right to bear arms.

Interesting, because the only time the Right to Bear Arms has been used was to protect people's right to vote --- Battle of Athens, Tennessee, 1946. This was done in response to abject and overt voter fraud and physical abuse by the Democrat political machines.

Shortly after it was used by the Deacons for Defense and Justice ( a black militia) to march alongside Martin Luther King to protect them from KKK Democrats, like Byrd and LBJ.

Not long after, LBJ, a staunch opponent of the Civil Rights Act, passed it during his administration, with the infamous quote "I'll have these ******* voting Democrat for the next 200 years." The Democrats also adopted a VERY STRONG ANTI GUN PLATFORM during this time period well.

Gee, since Democrats in the SOUTH were defeated by whites with guns in 1946 and blacks with guns in the 1950's-1960's I can only wonder why they became so anti-gun!?!??

So when the Republicans commit voter fraud, all the gun nuts do nothing to stop it, is that what you're saying?

IQ tests are not a valid test of intelligence, knowledge or what someone would do with that knowledge. Some of the most brilliant people in history have been shown to be racists, dictators, mass murderers, serial killers, fascists, etc. An IQ test before voting is ludicrous.

At least the groups mentioned are intelligent, but they are a tiny minority.
I'm more concerned with the majority - the sheep that follow whatever they're told to follow but never question it.

These people, in my opinion, have no clue what they're voting for so should not be allowed to vote.
No business would allow some toilet cleaner to vote on a multi million Pound deal, so why should thick sods be allowed to decide the running of a country?

You don't allow the mad to vote because they're incapable of rational thought, so why do you allow shit shovellers and burger flippers to do so?
They are equally incapable of reason so they should be equally incapable of voting.

Because "shitshovellers" and "burger flippers" pay taxes - they can vote.

Maybe you think anyone who disagrees with you is "incapable of rational thought," but this post seems to indicates that many probably consider you incapable of rational thought and would deny you your right to vote.

I think this post of yours is arrogant, mean-spirited, and based upon a very distorted understanding of what it means to be an American. But I'll still support your right to cast your vote - as harmful as it may be (if you vote the convictions stated above) to the United States.

Me? I think that you should be able to walk up with your SSN card, license, college ID, or whatever you've got that says who you are.
It needs to be a picture ID. Student IDs won't work since many foreign national students have valid student IDs. The list could include DOD (Department of Defense) card, driver's license, passport, or SENTRI card for Mexicans legally in the U.S.

When all else fails, a utility bill can also be used with a birth certificate (proof of citizenship), and any ID card with a photo (like a student ID card).

Why not just put photos on voter registration cards?

A 'test' would certainly not pass constitutional muster, but don't voters need to understand our form of government and how it works to make an informed decision about who best represents their needs and what that even means?

So many times we see a political party elected because way too many people believe the lies they spout without the slightest thought.
We see wars and misery because people blindly accept what they're told as fact, without the slightest interest in seeing what's really going on.

This in mind, I suggest an IQ test before you have the right to vote.
Anyone not at least 5 points above average should not have that right.
After the IQ test, a test on political matters and world events.

If you can't understand the politics, you should not have a say in what happens.

Do you agree?

No. Not only are IQ tests subjective, but it's not learning capacity that's the problem: It's the fact that so many people don't use that capacity to actually learn anything. Their brains are still sitting in the shrink wrap, as fresh and new as the day they got them.

As far as I know, there's no test for common sense, though.

Not really

Do you need to know that there are 435 Congressment and 100 Senators to vote for your representative?

These guys are your representative. They even represent the stupid

That would be good as well. The only drawback is you would need to send in a new picture for every new voter card that you receive.

I wouldn't be opposed to a test about the Constitution prior to voting.

What good would that do? Give the test to politicians.

That also.

However, if the electorate was better informed of the Constitution they probably wouldn't elect the crap politicians we have. I'm interested in getting to the root cause.

The root cause isn't lack of intelligence or sense, it's lack of motivation to apply it. Some of the dumbest, most illogical political theories come from people who, in terms of IQs, are among our best and brightest. But they live their lives in the cozy, insulated world of academia, where such theories will never be applied - certainly not to THEM! - and so they have no motivation to come up with anything that might bear a passing resemblance to reality or actual human nature.

You really want to limit the voting franchise to people who are going to try to use it for the good of America? Limit it to people whose personal good is directly tied to the prosperity of America.

The constitution leaves to the states how votes are counted, therefore if a state requires ID, you must show one, which is a very good way to prevent voter fraud.

I can't believe there are still people around who swallow that piss.

In those states which have Voter ID, voter fraud continues unabated.

Voter ID has not stopped fraud

State issued ID/Driver's license should be all you need. All you need do is go to your DMV to get one. If you don't have one, get one. If you're illegal, you know the drill. It's fairly simply, Biker. Pretty harmless.

Only problem with that one is that not everyone drives, so not everyone has a driver's license, and even if you went to get one, they generally cost you 50 plus dollars, and not everyone has that in their pockets.

State issued ID's, while they cost less (around 30 bucks), again, not everyone has the ability to go to the places where they can be issued, nor do they have the cash to get one, because the money is going for stuff like rent, utilities, food, etc.

Most people who make minimum wage live paycheck to paycheck.

Me? I think that you should be able to walk up with your SSN card, license, college ID, or whatever you've got that says who you are.

What a crock of crap. State ID's are generally free (at least in the states that I have lived in) and this nonsense about "they don't have the money for one" is crap. They have money for cigarettes, for liquor, for casinos, for marijuana and on and on. If you can't afford an ID - then you can't vote, or get on a plane, or cash a check, or any of the rest of those activities that require an ID.

People who live on minimum wage can still afford to get drunk. It's BS and you know it. It's always the liberals who come up with this crap.

Not to mention that you have to have an ID - and a hell of a lot more intrusive information - to get a Food Stamp card, so don't tell me these people don't already have one they can pop out to show the poll watchers. It's ridiculous.

Virtually every single place that has passed a voter ID law made a voter ID that was obtainable for free. This is a basic requirement for a voter ID law considering that anything other than free can be considered a poll tax.

That really destroys the VAST majority of arguments against voter ID.

My son just got a state-issued ID. It cost $12. Not exactly gonna break the bank; do NOT whine to me about how that's too much to handle, considering it's a one-time fee the first time you get it and $4 for a replacement after that, and considering that we all know you have to have one to conduct the daily business of being an adult.

For those in favor of the test: Would you be alright with the opposite party administering your test?

I remember a while ago progs opposed voter ID by denying the existence voter fraud. Silly progs, truth is forever.

Interestingly, there is voter fraud.

Even more interesting is that it's not the full scale scourge that the GOP claims.

What is even better, is that on occasion, it's the GOP that does the fraud..................

https://www.google.com/#q=republican+voter+fraud

But................at least.................voter fraud counts for less than one percent of the elections.

Interesting that the GOP counts for most of it......................

Hell, in these times, you pretty much have to have an ID to do pretty much anything. The limp-wrists constantly tell us that there"is no voter fraud" - so why the hell would they balk at showing ID?

Sorry, doesn't add up. It might take an extra 5 seconds to look at someone's ID. Big deal.
