The GOP "promised" Iraqi oil would pay for rebuilding. But who REALLY paid?

.

Just another example of the historic stupidity of that war.

It takes a back seat to the horrific damage done to our soldiers and their families, used as pawns to push a fucked up agenda, but important nonetheless.

.

So sayeth Congress and the UN!

good grief ....

Evidently (can't tell for sure) you're in support of that war. You know, the one that has left thousands of our troops dead, many more thousands physically maimed, many more thousands mentally/emotionally maimed, young American military families destroyed, daily suicides of soldiers who can't cope with the pain. All for what? A phony "democracy" living under the shadow of Iran, the country so empowered by the death of Saddam.

Hey, congratulations on that. I'm sure our military families are just as fucking thrilled as you are. Now, tell us how you care about the troops.

.

Yeah.....war really sucks.

We bombed Iraq and took away the keys to their economy for nearly 15 yrs prior to the war..

I expect there's a bill for that. How soon we forget Mad Albright telling us to forget the 200,000 Iraqi kids we killed under Clinton's embargoes and bombings..

And we expected to be greeted as saviours -- AND AWARDED great sums of money?

You mean Bush Sr.

Can't really blame him. It was Saddam who attacked Kuwait.

But it was Bush Jr. who attacked Iraq.

Try to figure out the difference.

This is why I won't vote DEM or REP.. They make up legends and stories that fit their needs. Here RDean completely forgets the 8 yrs of Clinton BOMBING THE CRAP DAILY out of Iraq, starving them of needed civilized supplies, and allowing the UN to get sloppy seconds with their "oil for food" fiasco.. Like I said hack --- It was nearly 20 years of very bad policy towards Iraq. PERIOD! And the Left told us we were only there to STEAL THE OIL... Well did we???

Press Briefing by Ari Fleischer

White House Press Secretary MR. FLEISCHER: Well, the reconstruction costs remain a very -- an issue for the future. And Iraq, unlike Afghanistan, is a rather wealthy country. Iraq has tremendous resources that belong to the Iraqi people. And so there are a variety of means that Iraq has to be able to shoulder much of the burden for their own reconstruction.

Audit Finds U.S. Hid Actual Cost of Iraq Projects

Security Costs Slow Iraq Reconstruction

The final bill will run at least $3.7 trillion and could reach as high as $4.4 trillion, according to the research project "Costs of War" by Brown University's Watson Institute for International Studies.

Cost of war at least $3.7 trillion and counting | Reuters

They don't even talk about the tens of thousands maimed that will cost trillions more going forward.

Is it any wonder Obama's budget is ballooning when Republicans handed him expensive mess. Remember, those OH SO patriotic Bush and the Republicans HID the cost of the wars from the American People. Now they say it's Obama's.

US and Allied Wounded | Costs of War

This may not cost even as much as the other two Republican catastrophe's they passed through reconciliation when they had majorities in both houses and the presidency. Democrats were powerless to stop them.

And now, they blame it all on Obama. We'll have to outline the other two disasters the way we did this one.

A press secretary saying that Iraq has enough money to maybe pay some of the reconstruction costs at some point in the future is the same as Republicans promising that Iraq will pay.

Makes sense to me.

THE "press secretary". Speaking for the White House. Getting out the word of the Bush Administration. Seems you don't understand how that works. It's, uh, how do I put this? Oh, "THEIR JOB". Hope that cleared a few things up.

The idiot never said what you say he said. Even if he was directly quoting Bush here you are still wrong.

So these right wingers are saying the 4.4 trillion and all the Americans dead and maimed was "worth it"? Seems to be the theme.

You got it bass-ackwards again lefties. Democrats spent eight years undermining the Military mission. Democrats feared that oil prices would drop and skew the liberal/socialist dream to convert the American way of life to some crappy European standard. Republicans never said Iraqi oil would pay for the Military mission but I wish it would.

What about the 10 pages of promises kept and the additional pages of promises stalled?

post them. but is it's anything such as compromised stalled in the works it's not a promised kept.
Are you talking about this?

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/gop-pledge-o-meter/rulings/promise-kept/

oh I see a lot of those deal with obamacare.

Ohhhh, so Iraq as a failure because of Democrats. I see. Yea, it's all clear now.

You need to get your lies straight....first it was Buuuuush, Cheney and Haliburton was stealing Iraqi oil and now you're claiming we didn't steal it. :cuckoo:

Another history lesson for the poor union educated libs who still think Social Studies is history. America was practically broke after WW2 and yet the liberal media drooled over the Marshall Plan which paid for rebuilding Europe. Russia erected the "Iron Curtain" and Europe pretty much hates us today so how did we do by investing half a Million American Soldiers and billions of dollars? Every major loss of life in the Military during the bloody 20th century happened during a chaotic democrat administration.

1. Obama was advised to hide military costs off budget like Reagan and Bush. He was told that Americans would get sticker shock and hold the increased spending against him.

2. Reagan was asked to price the military costs of stabilizing the middle east into gas costs so that Americans could see the true cost of oil, and also - more importantly - so that markets would get the correct price signals. Had he done that, the market would have moved more vigorously into alternative energy, conservation, and less oil dependent forms of urbanization and suburbanization. Had Reagan not hid the military costs of oil, the American economy, which is the most oil dependent on earth, would not today be dying because of high gas costs.

3. Hiding the cost of war and energy has gone a long way to destroying this country.

4. You can't talk about any of these things because people will think you are lying. None of their information sources talk about this stuff. Voters think we went to war with Iraq in order to fight an evil doer. Here is what they don't understand. The USA gets in bed with evil doers because they are the ones who protect US regional interests. Whether it be the Shaw, the Saudi Royal Family, the Mujahideen, Pinochet, the Contras, or Hussein... the US has and will continue to support brutal regimes that serve its interests. Reagan removed Iraq from the list of terrorist nations because he lost the Shaw in Iran. He needed another regional asset, so he got in bed with a madman. We supported Hussein with money and weapons when he gassed the Kurds. The second war in Iraq was not about fighting evil or spreading freedom; it was about re-configuring the region because of its geopolitical importance (mostly having to do with oil -not only its domestic uses but the role it plays in the global economy which the US safeguards). The biggest threat to neoliberalism is not terrorism; it's a nation or region that threatens to slip away from the grip of American capital.

5. You can't talk about #4 because talk radio republicans are NEVER told about geopolitics. They believe that wars about fighting evil and saving the world. (Talk about trust in the grandiose visions of Washington. A bigger group of government-loving suckers you will not find).

Oh, was he? Cuz I didn't see a link? Besides why would he hide something everyone knew belonged to Bush? Are you sure you've thought this through?

Dean-o, Bush has been gone a long time now... you can stop kicking his ass. Really.

If you want to focus on something, focus on Obama vs. Romney.

RDean's fantasy world is coming apart as Obama heads towards a November massacre.

Yeah.....war really sucks.

Yes, it really does.

It sucks a lot worse when it wasn't for what you said it was for and doesn't accomplish what you promised it would.

We can take solace in that Saddam was a bad man, but we knew he was a bad man when Reagan provided him weapons to kill the Iranians. We didn't kill him because he was a bad man. We killed him because we supposedly had weapons it turned out he didn't have.

And today, Iraq is a satellite state of Iran, as IRaq's Shi'ites have turned to their brothers in Iran.

The keyboard commandos don't care about that stuff. They just like blowing shit up to show us all how "tough" and "brave" they are, never mind the consequences and costs.
