Oh really? How can that be? The evil white man only had indentured servants who had to be set free after their time was up. It was a black man who wanted a forever slave.

And, another big surprise – by 1830 there were 3,775 black families living in the south who owned slaves!

What do you liberals have to say about that?

Don't you mean,

What do Americans have to say about that?

I'm sick of you racist assholes but our history IS what our history IS.

Instead of always trying to beat each other up with it, how about we work together to change our future for the better?

Hmmm?

good information Longknife , good to see the info out in the open !! As far as the future goes , it was going fine until the last 6 years , IMO Luddely !!

The first slave owner in the New World was Christopher Columbus, who enslaved the indigenous population. His Spanish compatriots who followed did likewise and worse.

So that makes it alright? Historically slavery had been the result of war, criminality, debt or religion. What makes American slavery different is the race aspect. In Africa blacks had been enslaving other blacks for centuries. Regardless of the anecdote in the OP, the white population readily accepted that Africans could be slaves, while no whites were, and treated them as second class citizens even after manumission. That's the lesson of slavery in the Americas, NOT the oddities to which the apologists love to cling.

Did they have basic photography in the 1600s when slavery STARTED?

Actually, there were many white indentured servants (aka, slaves) during British colonial rule.

And that didn't work out because: 1) they could run away and blend in another colony, 2) after their contract was up they were free.

Indentured servants weren't slaves. They may have been treated like slaves by some, but there was a foreseeable end to their servitude that true slaves did not enjoy.

He was the first legally recognized slave owner in the States, lol.

I posted this information a while back. It's hilarious.

Slavery has been in existence for many many millennia-------all over the globe. Sometimes it has been associated with race and ethnicity or has been a kind of group inherited situation.
Historically the people who made it a major SUB SAHARAN race issue were arabs-----they started doing it long ago----
long before islam came into being-------Sudan was an arab
slave trading out post long before muhummad was born.
The notion that slavery is a white European on black issue ---
is actually-----not at all true, historically. During the time of the ROMAN empire-----lots of slaves were greeks
