The fallacy of “if we stop talking about it, it will go away"

It's not about talking about it, it's how we talk about it.

Screaming RACIST! at everything that moves only makes things worse. Denying that racism still exists only makes things worse. Just blaming the other "side" and never holding our "side" accountable only makes things worse.

But, since we've lost the capacity for intellectual elasticity, this appears to be the best we can do. Self-inflicted wound.
.

Racism can never be cured via legislation, because it's a matter of culture and behavior, not skin color.

Racism was made/empowered by legislation. And it was based on skin color.

This is the fallacy of “if we stop talking about it, it will go away.” I hearing this at USMB quite a bit — if we stop talking about racism, no one will be racist; if we stop talking about the hungry, no one will go hungry; if we stop talking about white supremacy, no one will be a white supremacist. Yet we never hear anyone say this about immigration, gun control, government or taxes that are too high. Among many things.

Why is this?

It's not a matter of "talking" about it. Hell, we've talked ourselves silly about these issues. The problem is the Democrats use them as a bludgeon against the foundations of America, and in fact they would not exist as a party without them. They divide people into convenient groupings, then by way of media set them upon each other. This precludes any possibility of remedying the issues.

They have, of course, decisively lost the gun control war. Nothing more to talk about. They may get window dressing legislation here and there, but that will mostly be ignored.

These are lies.

My dear IQ2 you talk about racism everyday all day. You are stuck like a vinyl record...racism...racism...racism................

Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation that seeks to sow seeds of doubt in a targeted individual or in members of a targeted group, making them question their own memory, perception, and sanity. Using persistent denial, misdirection, contradiction, and lying, it attempts to destabilize the victim and delegitimize the victim's belief.
Hell IQ2...The MSM and D party have been gaslighting blacks and other groups for decades. Nothing new here other than since Trump, it has gotten much worse.

I am black. And you are a white racist republican telling a lie. Your existence as a republican as well as the existence if this forum and the alt right is evidence of the lie.

Whites are superior so why should we stop talking about it. Stop trying to make equal what NEVER was,NEVER will be equal.

Indeed, it is a great example. It is an example for you to have a hint of the beginnings of an idea, namely, "how we talk about it." Immediately thereafter you admit to your vacuity, and launch into the by now well-known staple of yours, BothSidesIsm. That doesn't further anything (other than your high horse), and it doesn't contribute anything to a better way to "talk about it", in particular. For, your mission is already accomplished: Mac, placing himself on the top of the pile, pissing on everybody else, left and right. Because, thinking about a better way to talk about racism and White supremacy is too damn hard, and so you give up before you've even started to think, and thus you have nothing to offer.

Isn't that so, Mac?

Olde Europe, don't you realize that Mac is so much smarter than you, that his opinions are much more reasonable and he's the totally last honest man in American... Come on, give him a minute, he'll tell you.
Neither of you are smart enough to know what reasonable opinions are.

Why is it always the most ignorant of whites that claim whites are superior? It never fails.

I agree, there is nothing more important than a supportive upbringing. But, at some point, you have to be responsible for your own future, regardless of your past.

The past can tell you how you became who you are. It should in no way dictate who you will become.

Typically if someone doesnt intervene via direct contact, a book, a character, a hero etc. you are subject to your learned responses to your environment. Your past is a driving force in who you become. Ideas dont appear out of nowhere as great and idyllic as the notion sounds. Someone else is always responsible for planting the seed.

Someone else is always responsible for planting the seed.

Human beings aren't seeds. Seeds can only grow into what they were when they were conceived. If our past limits who we can become, it would be impossible for the child of illiterate immigrants to become an award winning author.

If we were only capable of growing from the seed of our birth, how could the great-granddaughter of slaves become one of the world's richest women?

If how we began rules what we will become, how could the son of parents so poor they could not afford paper for his school work become one of the word's most renowned mathematicians?

I didnt say humans were a seed. I said other people are responsible for planting the seed that turns into what we become. Our potential is pretty limitless but we need that help to take it to the next level or someone shine a light down the path we choose. Humans are social animals for a reason. Without other humans its pretty much impossible to reach our full potential. That human is not restricted to a parent or relative. Could be a teacher, girlfriend, enemy etc. How many people do you know that get up to accept recognition and they can honestly say no one helped them get where they are?

Why do you whites who haven't experienced one day of racism think you get to tell us how things are pertaining to racism? Whites have denied racism since the nation started. But now in this country at this time, racism is based on the same things as it always as been. But now the excuse is about culture and behavior.

You aren't even superior to other whites.

Many groups of people have experienced and currently experience different types of discrimination. It's not a phenomenon unique to any one group of people.

Why is it that whites always make these silly comments to blacks when blacks have done exactly that with no help and against a system designed or us to be denied, while whites were given what they have by the same system?

Many groups have not experienced what blacks have or what NA's have in America. That's untrue and it should stop being repeated.

I hope that deciding you have no future because the game was stacked against helps you live your life.

Let me know how it's working out for you.

maybe some of you'll find racism a humourous diversion ,when y'all figure out globalist subjugation could care less if you're polka dotted w/racing stripes.....~S~

Maybe if you took your medication, you wouldn't see "Globalists" hiding under your bed.

Since no one is screaming racism at everything that moves, try again. You need to recognize gaslighting when you see it.

Naw, Stormy is fully committed to the stupidity of "Bothsideism". He really needs to believe the left is bad because they don't want to listen to racist comedians, and that makes them just as bad as Trump throwing little brown kids into concentration camps and letting them die of dehydration.
