This is the fallacy of “if we stop talking about it, it will go away.” I hearing this at USMB quite a bit — if we stop talking about racism, no one will be racist; if we stop talking about the hungry, no one will go hungry; if we stop talking about white supremacy, no one will be a white supremacist. Yet we never hear anyone say this about immigration, gun control, government or taxes that are too high. Among many things.

Why is this?

How productive has talking about immigration, gun control, government or high taxes been in coming up with a viable solution?

It's not about talking about it, it's how we talk about it.

Screaming RACIST! at everything that moves only makes things worse. Denying that racism still exists only makes things worse. Just blaming the other "side" and never holding our "side" accountable only makes things worse.

But, since we've lost the capacity for intellectual elasticity, this appears to be the best we can do. Self-inflicted wound.

It's not a matter of "talking" about it. Hell, we've talked ourselves silly about these issues. The problem is the Democrats use them as a bludgeon against the foundations of America, and in fact they would not exist as a party without them. They divide people into convenient groupings, then by way of media set them upon each other. This precludes any possibility of remedying the issues.

They have, of course, decisively lost the gun control war. Nothing more to talk about. They may get window dressing legislation here and there, but that will mostly be ignored.

Racism can never be cured via legislation, because it's a matter of culture and behavior, not skin color.

My dear IQ2 you talk about racism everyday all day. You are stuck like a vinyl record...racism...racism...racism................

America is so racist we may never have a real American black President and have to settle for the cheap "born in Kenya" knock off. Shame on us!

So, there was a question as to why some issues spark some kind of magical thinking to the effect that not talking about them makes them go away, while other issues do not cause same.

Is this a good occasion for another iteration of the BothSidesIsm?

Of course, this a good occasion for another iteration of the BothSidesIsm!

That is because EVERYTHING political is a good occasion for another iteration of the BothSidesIsm!

Stormy Mac, please provide an example of someone calling something racist that just 'moved".

thanks.

I only call racists racist. Of course they deny it, and I believe some of them genuinely cannot see or understand it, but that doesn't mean it's not true.

What?! No we aren't Talking about it! I've dug through every Martin Luther King Jr speech I could find. Bent over backs of submission, equal rights I grant you. We're not talking about it anymore, we're making Responsibility payments right out of White pockets to go Directly to Black healthcare. See where's a black person cares about the Direct Representation of Democrat versus the Representation Senate of Republicanism. See they're going to pool all resources, I'm not going to spin the wheels for 50 years on communism, it is what it is, and stuff from straight from people's private pockets goes over to affirmative action with Government shaking the stick at us, and debase the dollar. I'll never see a black person ask me for a dollar, anybody? Anybody at all? Because its on the high altar of the levitating government dollar to the High God of White-Guilt , praise where it got righteously allocated, government did it. Baptist authors stumped at their history, Blacks broke off for equal rights in slavery, well-funded white help to do this to the present, Martin Luther King Jr. to attack their segregation.

Indeed, it is a great example. It is an example for you to have a hint of the beginnings of an idea, namely, "how we talk about it." Immediately thereafter you admit to your vacuity, and launch into the by now well-known staple of yours, BothSidesIsm. That doesn't further anything (other than your high horse), and it doesn't contribute anything to a better way to "talk about it", in particular. For, your mission is already accomplished: Mac, placing himself on the top of the pile, pissing on everybody else, left and right. Because, thinking about a better way to talk about racism and White supremacy is too damn hard, and so you give up before you've even started to think, and thus you have nothing to offer.

Isn't that so, Mac?

Another fine example, thanks again.

Olde Europe, don't you realize that Mac is so much smarter than you, that his opinions are much more reasonable and he's the totally last honest man in American... Come on, give him a minute, he'll tell you.

Because avoidance behavior is only a good thing when you don't want deal with something.
