(CNSNews.com) - One day after Democrats swept multiple races including the governorship of Virginia, Rep. Bob Goodlatte became the latest Republican to announce his retirement from Congress.

He follows Sens. Jeff Flake and Bob Corker and numerous Republican representativesto the exit.

Goodlatte (R-Va.), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, announced on Thursday that he will not seek re-election in 2018.

He outlined his reasons in a "Dear Friend" letter, saying: "After much contemplation and prayer, we decided it was the right time for me to step aside and let someone else serve the Sixth District. I will not seek re-election. With my time as Chairman of the Judiciary Committee ending in December 2018, this is a natural stepping-off point and an opportunity to begin a new chapter of my career and spend more time with my family, particularly my granddaughters."

Goodlatte was endorsed by the Tea Party for years. He was and still is a monument to conservative ideals for several decades in office despite several attempts by dirty tricks democrats to unseat him. It's insulting that no nothing ignorant lefties would put him in the same category as Flake and Corker but that's the nature of left wing Alinsky politics these days.
