Both Churchill and FDR tried hard to win Stalin's trust, who was dubbed Uncle Joe at the time. Otherwise, there were not enough ground troops to fight Nazi Germany. The Iron Curtain was Churchill's own creation. With the percentages agreement with Stalin, Churchill recognized the Soviet sphere of influence in the post-war world. The 1944 deal gave the percentage division of control over Eastern European countries, dividing them into spheres of influence.
