Textbook Indoctrination in Public Schools

A lawsuit in California over lesbianism was filed last month over public school textbooks. The parents say they are concerned about indoctrination in the schools, but administrators say the course is needed to protect against discrimination — and that the lessons are protected by law. Parents were denied the right to opt out.

Here's the thing, I don't care if a kid's mom is a crack whore, a drug addict, a Nazi, a transvestite, a porn queen, a suicide-bomber wannabe or a card-carrying member of the KKK. She can wear a blue dress sucking on cigars and waiting around for slick willy all day for all I care, but my kids are not allowed to make fun of her kids.

That does not mean she gets to demand textbooks in public school promoting her lifestyle and causes.

And that's exactly what so many special interest groups are doing today, especially Islam and homosexuality.

Kids should be kids and teachers should teach reading, writing and arithmetic and stay the heck away from social conditioning/brainwashing.

But at the same time, you want things like the Pledge of Allegiance?

Nutjobs from both sides of the spectrum have caused the problems that are in public schools today.

You can't have it both ways.

Things were so much easier when I went to school. Why couldn't all of you just STFU and leave things alone?

the Pledge of Allegiance was recited every morning before class - everyone took part. Period. Those from other cultures who had something to share, were allowed to do so. Kids who were part of families with different religious beliefs were excused when necessary. Kids were taught reading, writing, math, history (and that means ALL history), health, science and social studies, had gym class, and went home for the day.

Some fucking nutjob decided that just wasn't good enough, and instead of being told to shut the fuck up, that opened the flood gates for all the shit that's going on now.

Schools aren't responsible for what's going on. The parents are.

Luissa, I don't want anybody's kids indoctrinated into anything, I want them taught how to think not what to think by you me or anyone else. For the last thirty eyars I've watched as errors began to fill text books at an alarming rate even concerning absolute basics. History is easily the most biased subject of all.
for the last 30 years!
Lies have put in textbooks for a lot longer, for one they were filled with propaganda and could never make america look bad.
I live in a liberal state and in high school we were taught about everything, every religion and every belief system. My teachers never gave us their opinion just taught us the history of the subject we were discussing.
I remember taking my first american history class in college,I learned most of the shit they teach these children in grade schools is lies or biased.

oh so you noticed the "hate america" shpeel of our academic elite. Sad. Good you noticed though.

At this point I am seeing devolution.

As to textbooks it's a money racket. They are slanted and usually full of crap because some new thing is mandated and new textbooks are constantly being bought and old ones shredded for recycling instead of going to a district that needs them.

I don't think creationism is really something that should be taught in schools. It should be math, math and more math, grammar and spelling and physics and chemistry and languages. At the top of the heap would be history and literature after the basic skills are mastered.

There are some interesting gaps in scholarship that need to be filled in, like the African Continent pre 1400's. there's practically nothing and there was a lot of something because we have some evidence of some incredible things but no backstory.

I think we have an obligation to do the best we can even with poorer populations because education is a cycle. Parents teach as much as a school does. Without the support of parents, children struggle. I also think children should go to school at an earlier age before they start to get bored.

We should lay off the sports thing. Academics should be what is considered cool. I also think basic music theory should be a required curriculum started at a very young age.

Know what really saddened me, Veritas? Telling my kids to be on guard for what their teachers taught them. I wish I could have told them to buy everything they taught them, but I couldn't. If they would teach them basic education without all the social mind conditioning, I could have.

What purpose does teaching creationism provide? God said "poof" and we appeared. So whether that is a belief or a baseline "fact" it is of no use to further study. You either accept it or not. WE can sense that we exist, and the earth exists. Creationism is saying: "This is the way it is, look no further."

Guesses. The fact that you're calling it that shows you really haven't any idea how science works. Explaining it to you would be an exercise in futility; you want to promote biblical dogma as fact and anything that conflicts with it will be met with your fingers in your ears.

Well I could call it "theory" but if you know anything about science and public education, they have completely rewritten what that word means to try to give it credibility

fail

Guesswork is more accurate.
how do you explain virus's mutating?
Or the fact the normal staph infection as mutated into MRSA.
How do you explain why people have only had blue eyes for only 10,000 years?
domesticated dogs are proof enough that evolution exists.

That has always been within their own species. Within their own KIND. God created life to adapt, but not to jump species. And they don't. Erego there are no missing links. A lot of claims of it, but they never pan out. Even Darwin said if you don't find it by now (future to him) his theory is blown.

You're fighting the good fight. I already grew tired of this.

I'll leave JenT with this question though: FIND ONE PIECE OF PHYSICAL OR EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT CREATIONISM. THIS DOES NOT MEAN CRITICIZING EVOLUTION, THIS MEANS SUPPORTING CREATIONISM.

I don't think we have classified virii yet, have we? This is an interesting question of taxonomy.

As far as interspecies combinations, one only need look at Madagasgar and Australia.

You're right, of course.

Parents of kids in public schools still fighting the damn culture wars all these decades later have a lot to answer for. Worse, try telling that to the parents who don't even have their kids in the public schools and still demand their right to play the crazy game with other people's kids. :cuckoo:

Your "involvement" should be limited to helping your child with their homework when necessary, attending necessary school functions, etc. but leaving the teachers to teach. If you don't like what's being taught to EVERYONE ELSE in school, then homeschool.

Problem is, you want to hold your teachers responsible for your kids 8 hours of every given day, but you want to dictate how they do their jobs.

(picks up planet, rests it on the scale)

Yep, it exists. Therefore it was created. Therefore there is a Creator. Somebody write this down, it's profound.

:D

Dis, there's this little matter of maternal instinct, and when a mom senses danger, she generally reacts.

If you have any appreciation of religious freedom or concern that sex is being pushed on (is it 12 year olds now?) and find out they can take your kid off campus to have an abortion without your knowledge but you can't ask them to give your kid an aspirin without 15 forms to fill out, when you examine what is being taught to our kids in California, you start to sense danger. And most of us act. It's just most are not willing to let their kids take the heat because there IS retribution to our kids when we complain. And it's one of the things that tore me apart.

We know the earth exists, or we think we do anyway. How does that prove there was a creator?

We could be dust mites on an electron of a larger oxygen molecule in some negative infinity.

And that's exactly what so many special interest groups are doing today, especially Islam and homosexuality.

Islam and homosexuality... how are kids are being "indoctrinated" into both of these? Let me guess - their shared hatred of Amurka and Jesus has caused these two nefarious groups to band together and secretly plan to turn all of our children into gay Muslims. Is this correct?

Are you talking about the parents that paid taxes for schools yet pulled their kids out anyway at huge expense to themselves? The ones who realize that what every other kid is taught directly impacts their own kids?

You know, maybe you're right. Those parents that objected to the school teaching their kids how to FIST anally and told them to try it they might like it, they should have just shut up. We should have let that training happen nationwide. All parents should just hand their kids over to the state-run school system regardless of their agenda and the impact it has on society. What were they thinking, standing up even though they were called homophobes and every other name, even from their Christian friends no doubt. So they got fined $10,000 for trespassing on the privacy of the lecturers teaching that class by tape recording it. Shame on them. If they hadn't stood up, my kid might know how to fist their friends today. Oh the wild parties we could have had...

Native born Californian, have thought about moving to the Bible belt, not a bad plan, LOVE those southern accents, but too many roots, family, etc.

So I changed it :)
