I Dr. Paul gathers enough delegates, he will have a lot of bargaining power over the platform committee and with the potential nominee who wants those delegates.

This hasn't been about winning the nomination from day one.

I will say this and go away...

If Ron Paul gets the knod from the voters to run against Obama.... by some miracle.
He will have my vote with no questions asked.

He's not going to win the nomination...This a certainty as, even though he's the #1 choice of 15%-25% of the primary voters, he's #2 on almost nobody's list.

His candidacy is all about moving the party and quite probably laying the groundwork for Rand.

Ron Paul winning, would get me to vote GOP for the first time in 12 years. Is he the most likeable person on the ticket? No. He doesn't have a lot of charisma. But I find his ideas very interesting.

If he were to somehow implement even two of his ideas while in office, I think it would be an interesting presidency. He would be a breath of fresh air. Providing that he isn't simply saying what he thinks that people want to hear, and then he'll just go business as usual once in office.

Far as I can tell there really are three branches of modern Republicanism.

There's the Libertarian branch represented by Ron Paul.

There's the Religious right branch represented by Perry and Mitt.

And there's the Statist Politics as Usual branch represented by the Newtster.

The primary thing unifying them is their mutual hatred for the Dems.

All three of these groups represent significant parts of the GOP.

But they definitely do have significant differences in their political and social philosophies.

In fact, if not for the DEMS, given that these various groups have idealogical hatred for one another at least as vicious as they have for liberalism, I doubt they'd be in the same party.

Mormons are theologically polytheistic, though most of their membership have no idea of this, and so evangelicals have a problem with them as politicians.
