And so it goes....

Recent: Obama's job plan will help unemployment and American states and cities rebuild, just as Roosevelt's did, but republicans again sidetrack real issues with malarkey about spending, taxes, and regulation, proving once again that the love of money is the greatest evil and the average voter has a short memory and pays little attention to results. It would seem that republicans with corporate support are still fighting Franklin Roosevelt's accomplishments and the freedoms given all by Lyndon Baines Johnson? President Obama is finally on the attack, recognizing when politics is only about power and money, and not about America, compromise is impossible.

Perhaps while your at it, you can give us a backgrounder on the Democrat ideology through the years, you know, Jim Crow, Slavery, KKK, lynchings, etc.?

So full of misinformation and historical inaccuraccies it is hard to believe.

Without a counter argument you make yourself the fool. Please read just a bit of history and then come back.

"Historian Phillips-Fein traces the hidden history of the Reagan revolution to a coterie of business executives, including General Electric official and Reagan mentor Lemuel Boulware, who saw labor unions, government regulation, high taxes and welfare spending as dire threats to their profits and power. From the 1930s onward, the author argues, they provided the money, organization and fervor for a decades-long war against New Deal liberalism—funding campaigns, think tanks, magazines and lobbying groups, and indoctrinating employees in the virtues of unfettered capitalism." "In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. ¶ We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together." Dwight D. Eisenhower

Perhaps while your at it, you can give us a backgrounder on the Democrat ideology through the years, you know, Jim Crow, Slavery, KKK, lynchings, etc.?

Have at it, be prepared though, make sure it is accurate, by the way you may need to read a few books, mommy will help you with the big words.

"Late in life, William F. Buckley made a confession to Corey Robin. Capitalism is "boring," said the founding father of the American right. "Devoting your life to it," as conservatives do, "is horrifying if only because it's so repetitious. It's like sex." With this unlikely conversation began Robin's decade-long foray into the conservative mind. What is conservatism, and what's truly at stake for its proponents? If capitalism bores them, what excites them?" "From climate change to evolution, the rejection of mainstream science among Republicans is growing, as is the denial of expert consensus on the economy, American history, foreign policy and much more. Why won’t Republicans accept things that most experts agree on? Why are they constantly fighting against the facts?" The world should be thankful conservatives are unable to create new nations, Imagine a new conservative country, a king that rules by divine right, and all citizens have to attend an Oral Roberts church twice a week. Schools would be shut up tight with union teachers still inside. A new government department formed to replace it, the Department of Ignorance. Their would not be slavery as it would be too expensive for conservatives but the department of labor would require 12 hour days and children would have to work. Women would not be allowed to vote. The job of totally reversing the income tax would now be achieved called the Bush victory tax. The elites, the richest, would be the noble class just below the king and comb their hair funny. The liberals would have to tip their hat to conservatives and say mornin your rich lordship. Saturday football would be replaced with the money olympics or who made the most money during the year. Cheating would be allowed.

But alas, because conservatives could not figure out how to create new nations, America had to be built on liberal ideas from the Age of Reason and Enlightenment.

There are a lots of ideas hidden in this brief history, but building on them take more time than I have. Enjoy, and if there is some major error, I'd appreciate your input. Blanket statements and revisionist nonsense don't count though.

"A people that values its privileges above its principles soon loses both." Dwight D. Eisenhower

It has been suggested the republican power structure does not trust their primary candidate Mitt Romney to be inflexible enough. To this writer he seems on course concerning the rigid ideology of republicans today. He says whatever is required whether yesterday he said something different. I know that doesn't sound very rigid, but you have to read between the lines. The other candidates had little chance in a field so weak, they dreamed that just maybe their time would come. Sometimes it comes and goes as Rick Perry demonstrated. Big money pushed Romney past the others. But Romney still polls low among a party driven by ideology only. Even they don't know who he is. In a real sense republicans are at their best when in opposition to change and progress, their history of failure to govern demonstrates that fact, but their constant whining, as shown by the tea party caucus and tax pledge followers, demonstrates how narrow focused republicans remain. They simply continue to be against progress for America. They do that one thing better than anything else, that is, they do 'nothing' very well. Credit is due them there. Watch them in Congress today, you could watch any brick wall and see an equivalent spectacle unveil.

Every war in the bloody 20th Century started during a democrat administration. You almost gotta laugh that radicals blame Hoover when FDR was in office four almost 4 terms. Woodie Wilson looked Americans in the eye and said he would never send their sons to fight in a foreign war and then he sent the Doughboys to bail out France. Twenty years later FDR said the same thing and sent Americans to bail out France. Eisenhower created the Interstate system and playboy JFK got us into VietNam. LBJ created the fake Tonkin Gulf incident and modern radicals blame Eisenhower. And as former republican Congressman Sonny Bono said "the beat goes on".

You obviously have never read a history book. Should FDR have given Japan a pass on Pearl Harbor? The Lusitania and Sussex brought America into WWI, along with several other issues. Wilson got the OK from Congress. Hoover was a failure, check here for a history lesson. Timeline of the Great Depression

I missed what FDR said? Vietnam started during Truman, and Eisenhower actually increased American involvement. Who was president during the Gulf War? Sony Bono ran into a tree, what's your excuse?

Looking around the interwebz, I ask myself if there's a political message forum where that dreck hasn't been spammed.

Seriously? That's great, excellent, makes the effort worth my time. Let me know any sites without my name, I'd like to give them an update. Thanks lots.

Note for election year: Check out 'Invisible Hands' for an excellent analysis of the growth of the conservative republican movement, and the power business has had over politics and the minds of many Americans today.

"[The Great Depression, Pat] Robertson wrote, did "more to shape the existing framework of U.S. government policy than any other single event in recent history." The legacy of the Great Depression included "a powerful central government ... an anti-business bias in the country ... powerful unions," and, most important of all, "the belief in the economic policy of British scholar John Maynard Keynes, to the end that government spending and government 'fine tuning' would guarantee perpetual prosperity." Robertson conceded that such measures might have played a role in ending the Great Depression. But fifty years later they were responsible for the "sickness of the 70s" - the devaluation of the dollar, inflation, the decline in productivity. Robertson called for a "profound moral revival" to combat the economic weaknesses plaguing the United States. "Those who love God must get involved in the election of strong leaders," he insisted, and they should choose men and women who were "pledged to reduce the size of government, eliminate federal deficits, free our productive capacity, ensure sound currency." Kim Phillips-Fein (p225 'Invisible Hands')

GOP history on the major side of Civil Rights ends in 1877 with Hayes' betrayal of African Americans.

The GOP, as the minority, helped to push through the Civil Rights and Voting Acts, but its southern members in House and Senate had voted against them in higher %s than the Democrats.

Freewill, you have to tell the whole story to have any reason for folks to believe what you write.

[Please check later posts for any updates]

Why did you begin your 'history" of the Republicans in the 1920's when they were formed in the 1850's?

The reason is that mostly all of what is posted is revisionist history and the history before 1920 really does not look good for the party of democrats.

Too funny.

You have a list of talking points without context or historical backing, but want substantive information when refuting. This is NOTHING BUT a blanket statement.

That has to be the dumbest post I've seen in this forum in quite a while.

The world should be thankful conservatives are unable to create new nations, Imagine a new conservative country, a king that rules by divine right, and all citizens have to attend an Oral Roberts church twice a week.

You should have started that treatise with "Once upon a time, in the mind of a political hack, these things happened:"
The phony baloney of "I'm a Republican-now-I-changed-my-mind" hacks always start the wool-pull about 3 months ahead of the vote. That way, they can "air" all the bad things, claiming superiority of their "decision".

Silly Season Is Everywhere! :lmao:

Anyone actually believe that the OP compiled that list on his own?

Smells like plagiarism.

Tacky.
They had to "evolve." (Latest acceptable term for rearranging history to bolster a weak case to fool undecided voters).

In evolving, tacky is okay if it decimates actual fact and sways the undecided person based on the illusion rewritten history creates to mask egregious future plans such as smacking down Bill of Rights privileges they can't do during the First Term.

Tacky? >> With pathos.

It is hard to describe the republican party today, its leaders are ideologues, talking heads, and a fringe made up of conspiratorial nutcases. There is no other way to describe them fairly. They persist in a litany of stupid remarks heard almost daily from elected officials which makes the 'witch candidate' and the 'VP candidate who read nothing' look normal if not regular. They get their soapbox on Fox where the last election proved clearly these people know nothing about America. And yet this is the base, a base heard online in a daily spewing of hatred for our democratically elected president. Just yesterday a former chairman of the republican party wondered why these stupid remarks persist and questioned why the few sane republicans don't speak up. I guess when the hardcore base shouts you down, there is no reason to even try to repair the GOP. Only the voters can repair the party but it seems gerrymandering has created a unsolvable problem when the candidates and elected republicans are of the same timber.
