More than 20 of them convened Monday for a dinner held by Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, where the prospect of Trump nearing next year’s nominating convention in Cleveland with a significant number of delegates dominated the discussion, according to five people familiar with the meeting.

Considering that scenario as Priebus and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) listened, several longtime power brokers argued that if the controversial billionaire storms through the primaries, the party’s establishment must lay the groundwork for a floor fight, in which the GOP’s mainstream wing could coalesce around an alternative, the people said.

Trump is going to be president, with or without them. The most the old guard can hope to do is destroy the GOP once and for all.

Standard Disclaimer: I don't WANT Trump, but the fact is that he is going to take it. He says stop the immigration of Muslims, the democratic - socialist lose their shit, the RINO core joins in, and Trump gains 8 points. The old guard is out of touch with both the people, and reality.

If Trump is unstoppable, why can't he expand his lead outside of the 25%-30% of Republicans who support him, and why does he poll so poorly against Hillary compared to the other Republican candidates?

In the event Cruz, Carson or Trump won the primary, I think they would push Rubio because he would piss off the least amount of people, but it would still be the same as when we got stuck with Romney or worse. People will show up to the polls, vote for a republicrat legislator, and ignore the presidential part.

I'll write in Yosemite Sam, or if somehow Bernie gets the democrook nom I'll vote democrook for the first time ever.

Cruz is NOTHING like Trump beyond the anti-establishment aspect.

Cruz is the model conservative. A strict constitutionalist conservative with a Christian moral foundation.

Trump has some great ideas, but at least one really shitty idea. I'll tolerate Trump only because he is one of 2 (3 counting Carson) candidates that can't be controlled by the establishment.
