Police: Two police officers among four fatally shot in Canada

Unknown as the story doesn't say who the shooter was. Just says two RCMP officers are dead.

Most of it is about gun control. They want to tighten it as though it isn't tight enough already.

Like bad guys can't get guns?? Of course they can and that leaves those without guns defenseless.

Just more idiotic idiots who don't realize the gun is the tool. The person using it is the weapon.

More Govt. morons.

Two Fredericton police officers and two civilians, including a local musician, were shot and killed on Friday morning, touching off a lockdown and standoff that paralyzed a large swath of New Brunswick’s capital city.

CBC reports 42-year-old bass player Donnie Robichaud was identified by his cousin as one of two civilian victims in the shooting. The deaths of Constables Lawrence Robert Costello, 45, and Sara Mae Helen Burns, 43, marks the most lethal day for Canadian police since June, 2014, when a lone gunman shot five RCMP officers, killing three, just 180 kilometres east in Moncton.

Authorities have yet to name the final civilian victim or the alleged shooter, only identifying him as a 48-year-old man from Fredericton. Police said he was in hospital “undergoing treatment for serious injuries” as of Friday afternoon.

A local hospital reported treating “multiple victims," but officials would not elaborate on the number of injured.

The relationships are murky too. “Is there a link between the victims and the shooter … that link has not been established yet,” said City of Fredericton deputy police chief Martin Gaudet. “That’s something we’re looking to establish and we haven’t established yet.”

Fredericton Police Chief Leanne Fitch said she didn’t believe the shooting was launched with any specific goal of targeting police.

“At this point in time we have nothing to indicate police were targeted," she said. “We responded to shots fired. Two citizens were already fatally wounded upon arrival of police.”

On Saturday morning authorities identified two victims as local 42-year-old musician Donald (“Donnie”) Robichaud and Bobbie Lee Wright, age 32. According to a posting by Ms. Wright on Facebook, the two announced a romantic relationship early this month.

Police seeks clues to motive after Fredericton man charged in fatal shootings

A man accused of shooting and killing four people outside his Fredericton apartment building seemed "utterly normal," according to a woman who helped him fill out a rental application.

Matthew Vincent Raymond, 48, always smiled and made friendly small talk when he paid his rent in person each month, said Judith Aguilar, an office manager at Sunfield Apartment Rentals.

"It's very surprising," she said.

"He didn't seem like a disturbed individual in any way."

The company manages the four apartment buildings that make up 237 Brookside Drive, the location of Friday's shooting. Raymond had been living in the complex's C building for four months, Aguilar said.

Donnie Robichaud also lived in the apartment complex. The 42-year-old father and musician has been identified as one of the four victims of Friday's shooting, along with his 32-year-old girlfriend Bobbie Lee Wright and two Fredericton police officers, Const. Robb Costello, 45, and 43-year-old Const. Sara Burns.

So far, police haven't established a link between the alleged gunman and any of his victims.

"That is a piece of information that we're looking to establish," Martin Gaudet, Fredericton's deputy police chief, told reporters on Saturday.

Alleged shooter used long gun

Raymond didn't raise any red flags with Aguilar.

She first met him when he filled out an application to live at the building. Aguilar believes he was living alone.

When he visited the rental company's office, she said Raymond always wore sunglasses and his bike helmet. He cycled everywhere and told her his bike was expensive.

Police haven't released many details about Raymond, saying only that he allegedly shot the victims from an elevated position using a long gun. He was not known to police.

"Everyone in the company that met him thought he was really pleasant," Aguilar said.

"Sometimes you meet people and they can be aggressive or they can give you this weird vibe or something. He seemed utterly normal. It was very shocking."
