A coalition of moderate Democrats and Republicans approved crucial border funding legislation late Thursday in the House, sending the $4.6 billion bill to President Trump's desk for his expected signature -- after Speaker Nancy Pelosi backed down from a push to include restrictions on immigration enforcement that could have scuttled the measure.

In doing so, Pelosi risked a severe backlash from the progressive base calling for those measures, convinced that so-called "guardrails" must be imposed to prevent alleged abuses by border officials.

But the speaker agreed to bring the bipartisan Senate-passed bill to a vote, without such restrictions, following intense pressure from Republicans and moderates in her own party. The Senate had demonstrated that bipartisan support by approving the bill 84-8 a day earlier, after rejecting an earlier House version.

Basically, the Democrats get up every morning, note the direction of the wind, then decide policy accordingly. NOTHING is more important to them than the retention of power and control. Nothing.

I would not call the Speaker of the House CAVING and agreeing to finally proved the US BPA with the adequate funding and resources to deal with the 100,000 illegals flooding into the US PER MONTH - provide adequate space / bedding, diapers, 'day-care' manning, sanitary conditions, 3 hot meals per day, toys / entertainment, etc... - 'growing some balls'.

It sounds more like it finally sank in to Pelosi's thick partisan skull that Americans aren't as dumb as she thinks they are and that they are going to figure out the US BPA is doing the very best it can with the extremely limited funding and resources it has and that it is physically impossible for them to do more when Congress, whose responsibility it is to provide additional funding and resources, refuses to act.

When I read yesterday she and fellow House Democrats were thinking about REFUSING to do their job - to provide adequate funding and resources to the overwhelmed / under-staffed/supplied US BPA IOT CARE FOR THE CHILDREN - I thought it was a massive mistake - a PR-nightmare waiting to happen, caused by NOT thinking about how it would look/ some really bad political advice. I guess Pelosi finally saw that, too / had that pointed out to her resulting in her (reluctantly) making the politically appropriate call.

Pelosi and Schumer went on national tv and claimed the border crisis was fake, a manufactured crisis. Then 60,000 illegal kids poured across the border in just the last 40 days and the crisis became so real even the fake news couldn't ignore it. Dem's are at serious risk of getting wiped out in 2020 on this issue so Pelosi folded.
