This breaks my heart and the majority are within 5 years of retiring . They are trying to let them go so they do not have to pay the retirement. You do realize that these boards happen about every few years? Research the Navy and Air Force's "Blue to Green" program from 2003-04 time frame. The Navy dropped almost 40,000. This program was in the works starting around 2004. I retired from the Navy in 2005, after 20 years and part of the reason was the new training and retention methods that the Navy was starting to implement. It didn't matter how good your were at your rate, it mattered more if you "checked the box" for the new consolidated training matrix. Alot of the local control was removed and a corporate mindset took over. I have a lot of friends still in the Navy and all are at least E-7 and above. They hate the way this new Enlisted Retention Board was formed and is used. If you are not 5.0 with all your boxes checked, your are in the running to get the boot.

P.S. This program started way before Obama.
