I must ask what is more dangerous the perceived dangers from the world around us or the dangers from within America? I am not naive to think there isn't danger out in the world around us but I am smart enough to realize we need to fix our internal problems before we can defend against those outward dangers. And the NDAA is proof enough we have a problem that's at least in my opinion.

They didn't do something "mean". They did something immoral, reprehensible and worth actually getting me to take the time to research why someone could do something that unimagniably messed up. Because mostly, one belief in invisible sky friends to me is just as silly as any other.

I don't think Mormons are trying to seek power over people. I think Mormons tend to be conscious of a need to be circumspect and would be disinclined to try to mix their religious beliefs with their governmental duties. [ETA: At least Mormons outside of Utah. I hear mixed reports from Utah.]

But I actually can see an atheist being more bothered by adherence to Mormonism than to other religions. A candidate believing in some of the specifics of Mormonism versus having a general belief that there is a God and maybe that Christ rose from the dead? Well, I can understand someone finding a need to take a more critical look at the mind of a Mormon based on his willingness to accept the Joseph Smith story and the Book of Mormon.

Essentially, their "Prophet" (you know, they guy they claim is talking to God) said to empty out your bank accounts to keep gay dudes from getting married, and people sent their college funds to a state where very few Mormons live in order to stop that from happening.

In short, it wasn't about just Mormons not marrying in their own Gender, they didn't want anyone else doing it, either.
