The franchise just isn't as good as the original. we have a couple franchises, but the old cinder block building with the pot belly stove is the best. 14 dollars for huge slab and a loaf of bread. Damn, I know where I'm going for lunch tomorrow now. lol

lol...very cute. I said they "sound" stupid and I tell my son that one resorts to that type of language when they can't articulate their thoughts.

(He'll find out the joys of a good cuss when he's older).

But again...why should I trust some government jerk to make decisions for me?

really--why vote at all?----or even obey laws that those government "jerks" make? We don't need no stinkin government. If someone screws around with what I want to do--- I'm shootin em.

Exactly how long do you think you would live ----actually live, without the government "jerks"?

I agree with jillian, why are some of you being assholes? Do you REALLY want the Government to raise yer kid? I know, its the easy way out right?;)
I agree. My guess is some of the kids are acting in a way the parents disagree with; since the parents are wonderful, it must be the government's/fcc/television/recording industry's/school's fault.

No, but I'm glad the government does things that make raising kids safer but I guess thats asking too much too huh?

So I guess some folks would soon rather have strip clubs next door to their homes, Porn peddled on every street corner - employee's at your local McDonald's droppin the F-bomb with every order because HEAVEN FORBID the Government actually help protect our families from those sorts of things...

Besides, this issue has NOTHING to do with the Government setting the rules for broadcast but has EVERYTHING to do with using your representitive democracy to have your voice heard to the TV Executives... .

I'm not sure where certain folks in this thread came up with the crackpot idea that someone we're asking the Government to do anything that's beyond the will of the people who sign that petition..

So I guess some folks would soon rather have strip clubs next door to their homes, Porn peddled on every street corner these can be dealt with via zoning laws, contact your city council- employee's at your local McDonald's droppin the F-bomb with every order because HEAVEN FORBID the Government actually help protect our families from those sorts of things...tell the manager that you and everyone you can influence will NOT be patronising that store anymore. Even though you don't like Whoppers all that much, they train their employees better, or vice versa, whichever the case may be.

Besides, this issue has NOTHING to do with the Government setting the rules for broadcast but has EVERYTHING to do with using your representitive democracy to have your voice heard to the TV Executives... .In this case, you are enabling the Congress to interject themselves into all programming. Are you sure you wish them to be able to do this?

I truly think it's extremely necessary for the citizens to petition the government for doing what they cannot do themselves. The more local, the better. All of us have the power to make it clear to stores, programmers, sponsors, etc., without the federal government intervening. On the other hand, no one state can address the illegal immigrants on their own. I wish people were as upset about that.

Arnolds is good. But lately it seems Golden Rule is better than most.

Come on over. A friend is always welcome in Tide country.

Zoning laws??? City Council??? Those are more government jerks. We can take care of things ourselves.

Fact is---the government STOPS us from taking care of the illegal immigration problem ourselves. Damn government jerks!

What I'm surprised by is the acceptance of some USMB members who say "I don't care if they do this" sort of acceptance attitude.

It's the bit by bit acceptance of things that are wrong in society that ultimately lead to its demise - the same thing happened in the days of Noah and it's happening now..

We feel better about saying things like "Why should the Government control what's on TV" rather than say "We won't tolerate this sort of trash"..

If you want things to continue on the downward spiral of morality - I guess just keep thinking this way and accepting whatever the mainstream TV Land Execs want to dish out..

This goes beyond what you feel you can regulate in your own household with the remote - it speaks to the very heart of a nation that has lost grips on its firm roots in decency, morality and a belief that there are absolute right and wrongs.

*sigh*

Thats the point, CP. Its a capitalistic society. If you want to be able to say "We won't tolerate this trash" then turn off ANY show that has innappropriate material in it. Soon the networks will see that those shows dont make money because no one is watching them. Show is canceled. A more wholesome show that people want to watch replaces it. Capitalism baby. IT works everytime its tried. Where Capitalism fails is when the government steps in to "assist."

Let the people decide by tuning in or tuning out. Take it this way. Say there was a group that was sick of the "immoral" biker shows on TV. American Chopper, West Coast Customs, etc. all those shows were deemed "immoral" by this group and they petitioned the government to have them censored or removed from the air. Government steps in and says, "your right". No more biker shows are allowed on the air despite the number of people that watched those shows and enjoyed them. This is the same thing. Many people watch HBO, Showtime, etc and enjoy Adult programing. They pay to get it. If ABC, NBC, CBS etc thinks they can make money selling this programing (ad revenue) then why shouldnt they be able to? If no one is going to watch it, just see how fast the shows come off the air.

Leave it in the hands of the people. The off switch will prevail.
