Vatican decries 'religion of health'

VATICAN CITY -- Vatican officials Thursday decried what they called a "religion of health" in affluent societies and held out Pope John Paul II's stoic suffering as an antidote to the mentality that modern medicine must cure all.

But "it is difficult to establish what a decent minimum is," said Faggioni, when asked about criticism over unaffordable health care for many in the United States.

I believe the pope is basically a lib in many ways. He's saying the it's ok if the system is shitty (health is an obsession), but that everyone must have access to it. This is exactly what any socialized medical system will become, a crap system that everyone has access to.

Exactly, try asking a Canadian about their health care. They come down here to get tests so they don't have to wait 6 months. A Canadian friend told me pregnant women go to General practitioners and only see an OB is there is a problem that has been going on for a long time. This friend had 2 miscarriages before she got permission from her health insurance to see an OB, that's just unbelievable.

I have friends in Europe, same problem. Crappy health care. They wait months for a test that in the US people get next day.

Of course the dems. are going to push for socialized medicine if they get the presidency in 4 years.

You don't need permission from an insurer to visit an OB in Canada, unless you are using private insurance for services not covered under your provincial plan (this may differ in BC, not sure). In my case, I phoned the closet OB to my house and made an appointment when I was pregnant with my daughter. Most specialist only require a referal.

Marriage counselling.

Day care centers.

Social programs.

Women's rights.

War on terror.

How ridiculous is it that a religous organization elects a man to the position of Pope and then imbues him with god-like qualities?

I know. I've been having serious problems with the catholic church lately. This really was the straw that broke the camel's back, as it was clear to me that this was a bold faced attempt to get people to accept socialism, and the crap health care it creates.
