I'm sure the point of the KKK thing was to point out that back in the mists of time the KKK was predominantly filled with right wing conservatives of the Democratic Party. Well, they most likely would have left out the "right wing conservatives" part and just harped on the Democrat part.

Today's bigoted right wing conservatives infecting the GOP are direct political descendants of those Democrats. That's the part they don't want to hear about, and I'm sure the whole truth would not have been discussed at the "Bean Feed".

It never dawns on them to wonder why they have to go back 50 years to find hard evidence of KKK Democrats. Are they stupid enough to believe minorities will vote for a party based on its past history and not on the present deeds of the GOP which so clearly telegraphs just how much it hates minorities?
