Israeli land and property laws - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You need to read about these laws.

They were used to take away more than 1 million dunams (1,200 sq. km) of land from Arab citizens of Israel.

These were Arabs who fled their homes, towns and villages within Israel and were not allowed to return to their lands.

They became citizens of Israel but were not allowed to return to their lands in Israel.

Citizens of the State but unable to use or even occupy their land. So much for equal citizens under the law.

The total number of these people is around 274,000 or 1/4 of the total Arab Israeli population.

You think similar laws don't exist in the west? Land that taxes are not paid on get taken by the state. Land unclaimed beyond a certain point goes to the state.....
Land unregistered can be claimed to anyone willing to pay back taxes and bring land up to code.
Arabs that did not want to be obligated to military service under the ottoman did not register land when they had the opportunity. Arabs that could not or would not pay taxes also lost a right to land they might have claimed. Land owned by others that arabs lived on or worked was legally sold and no obligation for the new owners to allow squatters when the land could be developed and provide for more people.

but palestinians want to void all sale of land to jews, even by the church, with no hint of re-compensation for the overprices paid for the land at the time, let alone interest for over 60 yrs. on the money???? I doubt Arafat's family who sold land in Jerusalem to jews would fork over even a piaster.

Israel refused to allow Arabs reclaim land that they fleed during wartime.

Arab citizens of Israel. Israeli citizens. Israelis.

But because they were and are Muslims & Christians, their rights meant shit.

If they converted to Judaism, their rights would have automatically and magically reappeared.

And you would applaud such a disgusting policy. Shame on you.

Repetition...how original.
Or that an oxymoron?

Do you think that he is even remotely interested in all the Jewish land taken over by the Muslims when the Jews had to leave their Middle Eastern countries? Have to tell you a good one. A friend of mine hangs out at the UN and made some friends with some Muslim women from Ethiopia. They asked her if she could help them get the land of the Ethiopian Jews who left for Israel. Do you think these women actually had any payment in mind for this land?

Do you care at all about a Western democracy stealing land from their own citizens like this?

Please name a Muslim Western democracy that committed such a crime.

Israel is a Middle-Eastern Democracy; the ONLY Middle-Eastern Democracy.
And like the entirety of the Middle-East, has a RULING religion.
But Jews don't execute people for removing burkas.

no requirement to be jewish was made, only to become Israeli citizens. Any land claim could be tried in court, many were and awarded returned or compensated.
Education and medical applications for entry were also permitted to many palestinian refugees in Lebanon, as were applications from refugee in other countries. No religious limitations or stipulations were made.
You have been influenced by too much propaganda. For people outside that wanted to move to Israel and become Israelis, there was a requirement to prove judaism but that was for aliyah of the diaspora. There was a requirement of military service for aliyah. That had nothing to do with reunification programs for palestinians/arabs to return to Israel.

According to COHRE and BADIL (p. 41), the provisions in the law made sure that the term 'person' did not apply to Jews. The law also applied to Arabs who had become citizens of the State of Israel but were not in their usual place of residence as defined by the law. In this case, they were referred to as 'present absentees' and many lost their lands.

The amusing thing is that the Palestinian have said previously that they want a government just like Israel's. I bet you that Victory could care less that his friendly Muslims once left the Saudi Peninsula and invaded the surrounding countries, forcing people to convert and killing many who refused. Now the descendents of those who were lucky even to survive the Muslim onslauht can't even practice their religion in peace.

Saudi Arabia wasn't a signatory to the Geneva Conventions, back in the 7th Century.

There were milliions and millions of displaced people after World War II who had to move thousands of miles from their original homes and learn a new language and culture, and they certainly do not whine like you. They happened to get on with their lives, and in many cases very successfully. There was no reason for the Arabs not to make these Palestinians citizens of their countries, except they wanted to keep them refugees as a thorn in Israel's side.

Why is it so difficult for the Muslims who invaded the lands of the early Christians to allow these descendents to practice their beliefs in peace now in the 21st Century?

Don't change the subject. We are talking about Israel stealing land from its own citizens.

These people were Israelis. And Israel stole their land.

If they left before the mandate ended or were from lands that became part of Israel by the ceasefire, then no they were not Israeli, but if they had family that remained they could apply for entry through reunification programs. Israel wanted family to be together.
Those from Israel could have been part of the 100,000 offered return. Blame falls on the arabs for the refugee tragedy.

This thread is about Arabs who lived within the borders of Israel and stayed within the borders of Israel. They never left.

They became citizens of Israel as soon as the Jews did.

But because they fled their homes, even though to another place inside Israel, they lost their lands and Israel didn't give it back.

Read the article at the start of the thread. This is about Israelis, in Israel, who stayed in Israel, who had their land stolen by the Israeli govt.

Millions of dunams of land.

I keep seeing "absentee".
Where is the paragraph which indicates that those who didn't flee lost their property?

courts have always been open to palestinian claims of actual deeds not just people living on the land. Deeds printed in Beirut by PLO in the 70's are not legal. Deeds from ottoman or mandate archives often were compensated by the court.
