The time is ripe to adopt the Arab League’s peace initiative as a framework to negotiate a comprehensive Arab-Israeli accord, Israeli Science Minister Jacob Perry told foreign journalists in Jerusalem.
New opportunities have arisen with the emergence of an alignment of moderate Arab states opposed to a radical Islamist axis, Perry, the former head of the Shin Bet intelligence agency, said today. “We cannot and must not ignore this new reality and the opportunity it presents us” to embark on a political path “based on an updated regional approach.”
“The time has come to face the challenge head on and adopt the framework of the Arab League initiative for reaching a comprehensive regional solution that will include an agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Authority,” he said. A regional peace conference should be convened “in the immediate future.”
While the majority of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet opposes bilateral talks with the Palestinians, there is a good chance they will agree to a regional framework, he said.
The Arab League proposal is based on a 2002 initiative by Saudi Arabia to trade normalized relations between Israel and the Arab world for an Israeli withdrawal from all lands captured in the 1967 Middle East war; the establishment of a Palestinian state in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem; and a “just solution” for millions of Palestinian refugees and their descendants.

I'm sorry to kill the good news, but the Palestinians are simply running low on options and yet Saudi Arabia is the most promising road to normalization status with the Arabs, so its kind of good old expected news.
