How would prepping have helped someone in those countries? It seems like fleeing was their only option. Maybe your only prep should be a passport and a suitcase? It that is true, I guess I'm a prepper too.

Good question, I guess it would depend on what you prepared.

I don't think that it will be as sudden and severe as what happened in those countries so there might be time to properly prepare. Such as the food shortage scenario that I described earlier.

I started this thread because I don't have all the answers and I'm hoping some other people will have at least some answers.

Rice & beans because a little goes a long way & they both store very well.
A garden & lots of ammo. Homemade Ethanol. Cattle. Chickens.

I'm bigger on silver than gold because it has more upside, it will be easier to deal in smaller amounts with & is trading near historic lows compared to the price of gold.
The gold/silver ratio in mining is about 1/17. For every 1 ounce of gold, around 17 ounces of silver are extracted.
Right now, the price ratio is almost 1/100.

Rice and beans sure but they are mostly empty calories. i have some stashed for sure but that's not all i have. I have enough dehydrated food for myself and my wife to last for 6 weeks, not counting the beans and rice.

I agree about the gold. I only hoard silver. Even then if things get really bad, one ounce of silver will be worth a lot. i need something smaller for common trading. I have collected Mercury Dimes, silver quarters, and silver nickels. you can get them pretty cheap right now.

Canned food, close to a creek and I have good water filters. Have finally found someone who will teach me hand loading. There's no porn on my paper but I have a 2-year's supply of it.

Big garden and home canning skills and about 1000 jars.

Just starting putting up sauerkraut and still have enough cabbage in the garden to do another dozen jars and still give away cabbage to friends.

I'm considering a deal for more land to increase the size of my garden to 1/4 acre.

Probably most importantly, I live in a heavily armed small town and there are no rainbow or BLT flags to be seen. Plenty of Betsy Ross and Gadsden flags.

I am canning food, mostly meats and broths, but I also have canned veggies and soups that i bought at the store.

I have been reloading ammo for almost a decade now. I try to keep a minimum of 500 rounds for each caliber gun I own with the exception of my shotguns and my AR-15. that AR is a hungry SOB!

I feel that the home garden is a waste of time, that's just my opinion for sure but you'd need quite a lot of land and how would you stop others from stealing your food?

Unfortunately for me, I live in a suburb of Orlando which also unfortunately, is the last stronghold of liberal stupidity in Florida. I envy your small town.

No, you won't. In a SHTF world there IS no law. That's the point. We are already there in a lot of democrat cities. People don't bother calling the cops because they don't show up.

And that doesn't even count the 80 million other gun owners in the USA.

I think personally that the Global Elites are planning better than that. they won't let everything collapse so fast that chaos will rein. It will be a slow descent with them controlling everything. CBDC, martial law, drones, surveillance, etc.

There's is no way to predict exactly how shit might hit the fan for any given person. For some, it could be a localized weather, or geological event. For another it may be a personal tragedy such as a house fire, or death in the family. All these things happen everyday to people. The least likely scenario I see happening is some full on Mad Max scenario.

The only real SHTF scenario is any scenario where the power grid goes down for an extended period of time over a wide spread area. Anyone in that area is in for true hell on earth scenario.
Food shortages will cause a level of violence and savagery not seen on American soil since the days of the Indians. Roaming bands of marauders will break out within the first 3-4 days with organized gangs within the first 10 days. Any prepper will be easily identified and raided in no time.
The only ones that can possibly survive such an event are those that relocate to where power exist, or large prepper groups that managed to make it to their encampment.
'Lone wolf" preppers will be raided and their food stores stolen. In a matter of days. No matter how much guns and ammo they have convinced themselves will protect them. It will not.
