Is global warming replacing Revelations as the "doom cult" of choice?

In the Middle Ages, up to modern times, "doom cults" were based on the Book of Revelations.

Religious conmen would quote passages from Revelations to prove that the end was near, and convince followers to sell all their worldly possessions and give them the money.

Then the conman would tell everyone to meet him at the top of a mountain and wait for the Second Coming of Christ. And then the conman would not show up, and all the disappointed (and much poorer) victims would go home unhappily realizing that life would go on as before.

And now we have "global warming" or "climate change" which promises the same sort of dramatic end to the world, and quotes scientists instead of Revelations, but it's the same basic concept.

And the solution, of course, is to give money to the people who are warning us, like Al Gore, who is now a very rich man selling so-called "carbon credits."

Is there a certain kind of person who is victimized by these scams, the kind of person who is dissatisfied with the hum-drum of every day life, and wants the drama and excitement of a world ending spectacle?

I think there is.

Who will ever listen to the dull guy in the corner who says, "No, the world is not ending. Go back to your lives. Don't give them your money."

The global warming people call them "deniers" and one professor has recommended that such people be given the death penalty:

Prof. Richard Parncutt Death Penalty for Global Warming Deniers Tallbloke s Talkshop

Has it all gotten just a little out of control when people are saying we should kill those who deny global warming?

It would seem so, except that global warming is a form of religious fanaticism, and religious fanatics cannot tolerate "heretics." Everyone must fall into line -- or die.

I say yes. The cult of AGW behaves in every respect like a religion. They have their high priests called "climatologists" who, though their science is what's known as a "soft" science, meaning it ain't hard, are somehow endowed with magical abilities to only be able to understand the scripture they write....even though they can't seem to do the math properly. Then there is the call to persecute the heretics, called "deniers". And of course there is the scripture itself which is so secret that it can't be shown to any but the high priests lest we be DAMNED! Sounds a lot like Mormonism in that respect.

And we also can't forget the warnings of Mother Earth smiting us for our perfidy. I can go on and on but I think you get the idea. It is every bit a religion.44

Alarmism is just another religion of the CAGW cult. It thrives on baseless premises that can never be proven and gloom and doom that never comes true. These people have been touting the end and the earth burning up for decades and each time the lie is exposed they claim "its hiding in the oceans" or " you dont understand" or 'only those scholarly folk with the right degree can say anything' or 'your to stupid' or "your a denier"... Its all lies and deception.

Its all snake oil and a scam. Their soft science has been shown fraud and deception. In My Humble Opinion, if they want to stop CO2 emissions they should hold their own breath and show us how its done... CO2 is the gas of life on this planet, trying to kill all CO2, natural or not, is a fools errand and is essentially committing suicide..

LOL. A religion that every single Scientific Society, every National Academy of Science, and every major University in the world states is correct? You silly asses are making complete fools of yourselves. You are the ones that are playing the faith game. You have faith that we are not changing the climate even though all the evidence says that we are. You have faith that all the science is wrong, because you want it to be.

As the evidence in everyone's backyard begins to be apparent, this is going to backfire politically in a big way. And most of us that have seen the assholes trying to crucify the scientists for reporting the evidence, will be pointing fingers. There will be a high price, politically, to pay for being a whore to the energy companies.

For most of history, the church was the center of science.....no great surprise that science would don religious vestments...especially if hundreds of billions of dollars are to be made. Follow the money.

AGWCult is as sick death worshiping, closed-minded, hateful, ignorant, dogma-worshiping Cult as you'll find anywhere on planet Earth

When they act like religious fanatics what else can you call them olfraud? If it waddles, flaps, and quacks like a duck....it's a duck.

The first post invoked the Gore Rule. Whoever brings up Gore first admits total failure, and thus forfeits the thread for their side.

Better luck next time, deniers.

Now, go check with your cult leaders concerning what today's denier talking points are. You wouldn't want to be out of sync with the rest of your herd.

Do you mean because in his Peer reviewed AGWCult Bible "Earth in the Balance" Gore blamed water vapor as the primary driver of "Global warming" Remember when it was called "Global warming" which was immediately after "Global Cooling" but before "Climate Change/Disruption"?

The big difference with this scenario is that there is no near term deadline so it can go on for a really long time and stir larger controversies. The scientists (or a great number of them) are in on this making it harder to debunk.

What's needed is common sense; as in how do we or what is the best way to deal with it and/or take advantage of it?

Warmer is better than colder, that's for sure (more people die from inadequate heat cold winters than from inadequate air conditioning), and the regions in which food can be grown expands, larger areas of the globe to the north became more amenable to human habitation, and it's all happened before without negative consequences.

It might surprise a lot of the worry warts that human caused warming may be all that stands between us an another advance of the glaciers down as far as the Ohio River here in America, and the complete destruction of civilization. Global warming is not going to cause anywhere near the same civilizational or geographical dislocations as the alternaive.

I see Frank took my advice, and checked in with his DearLeaders to get the most recent official batshit crazy denier talking points.

You other deniers need to memorize that all, and then repeat it often. You wouldn't want Frank to hog all the cult brownie points. Don't worry if it makes no sense. That's never stopped you before.

The opponents of climate change, like the young earthers, are certainly a cult.
