If social security is SO great...

Can I opt out retroactively?

I don't even want to opt out retroactively, I just want out.

Don't take any more from me and I won't ask for anything from you. Apparently I'm to stupid to be able to make this decision.

Dumbest post so far. Yes, by the statement you just made, you are too stupid to make that decision. People get hurt badly enough in industry every day that for the rest of their life, they are on Social Security. They end up with disabilities that prevent them from being able to work for a living. And it could happen to you just as easily as anyone else. Should it happen to you, you think that you would just die rather than accept the social safety net?

And here we have the epitome of the liberal socialist hypocritical mindset. Here is a person who works for a notoriously polluting company, in a notoriously polluting industry and he lectures people about how they should live cleaner lives all the time. And he says you are too stupid to take care of yourselves......

Guys and gals, we are part of the social compact, thus we make policy. If privatizers can get the numbers to do such a dumb thing, so be it. But realize the anger of the health insurance reform would be a match flame to the forest fire of citizen outrage at privatizing social security.

SS is bankrupt. The GAO published a very good report that shows how Clinton was looting the trust fund to "balance" his budget. Of course every other president has done the same, he was just the first to claim he was balancing the budget while looting the fund.
In 20 years NO ONE will get a dime out of it. That is reality. Change is coming, and it is going to happen whether you want it to or not.

Westwall, there is a socialist behind you! Boo!!! When you come back to reality, let's see what you have to say.

How many people starved before social security?

Lots.

Really? Care to support your argument with some facts. I can show plenty of sources that show people did not in fact starve. The churches stepped up and took care of those in need.

A woman in South Carolina scrawls a note to a man in Washington whom she addresses as "Dear Mr. President." "I'm 72 years old and have no one to take care of me." Another letter comes to the White House from Virginia. "I'm a 60 year-old widow greatly in need of medical aid, food and fuel, I pray that you would have pity on me." Letters such as these came by the thousands from old folks across the country to the President, to Mrs. Roosevelt, to almost every one in Washington whose name was familiar to them.

Before you make a fool of yourself, I would suggest you read the GAO reports they are available online. As I said before...educate yourself then come back and feel free to participate.

And your point is? The people weren't starving they were asking for health insurance, and to suffer from suger diabetes means she was living pretty well. The first modern style group health insurance program I am aware of was founded in 1929 by a group of teachers in Dallas Texas. So the complaints about lack of health care was the norm FOR EVERYONE until the 1940's.

Lt. Gov. Bauer definately seems to be an ass though...I'll give you that one.

...why can't the people have a choice to opt-out? Obviously if it is so great everyone will choose to be a part of it, right?

If having police, a judiciary and a military are all so great why can't people choose to opt out of paying for them?

Obviously if they are so great everyone would want to pay for them, right?

I wonder how many would opt out of these, compared to SSI? I say, let's give it a try.

The only people good enough to opt out are government workers. Millions retired without paying into the system, and over 5 million, mostly state, and some federal workers, left hired before 1983 who didn't pay in either.

These government workers are also majority Democrats, and got legislation passed so you can't make them pay into the system.

When we allowed a monopolized system of government by Democrats, we end up with the mess we have for government today.

If you even try to reform government, you will end up in a courtroom run by Democrats.
