If "redskins" is offensive why not "white people" or " black people"?

It's common in america to call groups of people by their (very approximate) skin color and nobody objects except the indians.!!

Did they ask the Indians if they minded first? If not then don't complain when someone does not want to be exploited without consent...

Hey stupid. Indians are not exploited. Just the opposite - us white people provide them with welfare and all the free booze they want.

"Us white people"? Your sentence structure is just one of the many things that makes an obvious statement about the depth for your thick headed stupidity.

You personally don't provide anyone with anything except laughs, and in most cases, disgust in this forum for being such a low rent moron. Hopefully the mods will move this horseshit to the Badlands with the rest of the idiotic crap that you post.

And yes....I will say it for you:

"The board notes that I insulted you, and it was well deserved"

Well, they, Indians do not have red skin and never have. There skin tones range from nearly white in the northwest coastal tribes to dark brown of some central and south America tribes. It really doesn't matter that red skins refers to a tribe that painted themselves red to ward off insects; people who want to be offended will be offended.

I believe the name was chosen to indicate fierceness; if that is the case the owner should change it to the Spartans. They were the most fiercest warriors the world has ever known and they were white and Caucasian so there would be no problem with the name.

If you really gave a shit you could google it's history and find stuff like this;

"The Pioneers and other books by Cooper were largely seen as sympathetic toward Native Americans and their struggles in the 1800s. Decades later, the word "redskin" began to take on a negative, increasingly violent connotation. Author L. Frank Baum, best known for his classic The Wizard of Oz, celebrated the death of Sitting Bull and the massacre at Wounded Knee with a pair of editorials calling for the extermination of all remaining Native Americans. In one of the December 1890 pieces, Baum wrote, "With his fall the nobility of the Redskin is extinguished, and what few are left are a pack of whining curs who lick the hand that smites them."
. In 1915, the poet Earl Emmons released Redskin Rimes, a book so offensive I had to double-check to make sure it wasn't a parody of the racism of that era. Emmons makes his intentions clear in the introduction of the work: "Those persons who got their idea of the Indian from Mr. Cooper have pictured him as an injured innocent. ... Those persons have acquired the wrong idea of the maroon brother." That introduction kicks off a series of poems, songs and speeches, each more offensive than the last.
Emmons' book was emblematic of the usage of the word "redskins" in the late 1800s and early 1900s, as the word went from being an identifying term to a derogatory slur. By the 1910s, it wasn't uncommon for filmgoers to encounter it, with the word frequently popping up in the titles of American Westerns."

If you really gave a shit. I'm pretty sure you don't.

Um . . . .

The name Oklahoma comes from the Choctaw phrase okla humma, literally meaning red people. Choctaw Chief Allen Wright suggested the name in 1866 during treaty negotiations with the federal government regarding the use of Indian Territory, in which he envisioned an all-Indian state controlled by the United States Superintendent of Indian Affairs. Equivalent to the English word Indian, okla humma was a phrase in the Choctaw language used to describe the Native American race as a whole.

When we talk or write about blacks, browns, whites in regards to people we're obviously referencing the color of their skin. Recall at one time a lot of Negroes decided they didn't like that term and insisted on being known as blacks instead.

Wonder if the folks upset would be OK with simply dropping the skins and just refer to them as reds?

Then why is booze illegal for Indians in Alaska?
Its not

It is if the reservation wants it...

Nothing even remotely addressing the topic.

There is no "TOPIC" here that even REMOTELY addresses common sense, Jr.
"Note" that.

The topic isn't "common sense".

Correct. With one caveat. A non Native American trying to define or justify what should be or not be offensive to Native Americans Is ignorant.

And to state that "they are given free booze and welfare by us whites" is downright stupid.

So you are right for once. Common sense was never present or even a factor in this thread.

Now what?

Are you a "native" american?
Have they chosen you as their spokesman?

Ask the OP the same question, then I might consider answering you.
