I usually help them by berating them and telling them to get a job
Why? Most seem to make a better living not working.

All of these things you have cited are more often than not directly related to decision making...They are not the āless fortunateā. It wasnāt bad luck that put them there. It was piss poor decisions on their part. Calling them āless fortunateā implies that I only got lucky. I worked hard to get where I am.
And so to hell with those who have made poor decisions?
Guess what, I've made poor decisions as we all have. By the grace of God I'm still blessed.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating forcing you to give, like left wingers who want to incorporate the church and state together do, I'm merely trying to make you think.
There are those who feel the need to give, I say go make yourself happy, if thatās what does it for you.
All Iām saying is that post is offensive to me. I did not get where I am by just being fortunate.
We have to battle this kind of nonsense whenever we see it. The left controls the language. This is straight out of their playbook. We cannot let it slide.
Really? Good health is not good fortune?
Having the ability and smarts to make good money is not good fortune?
Having loving people around you to give it a token of meaning is not good fortune?
Do tell.

and back to the topic
a sagey old jewish friend once told me......why give gifts that arent charitable donation and therefore tax write offs....i donated to the dolly wood foundation after the fire, food banks and habitat for humanity this year...and disabled vets and salvation army plus the olders folks have too much shit as it is and are trying to give it away so the donations in their honor make more sense

I don't have a whole lot of money to give, although I did donate a few dollars to veterans and the Red Cross. I am certainly far from being rich. If only all the rich people who are always lecturing us would give more to charitable donations and not just worry about tax write offs but were legitimately concerned about the horrible existence some people (and animals) suffer through.
I never made such a claim. But what's more useful to a person long term? Helping nullify the consequence of a bad decision? Or equipping them to avoid making bad decisions on the future?Don't try to pretend as if you are perfect and have never made mistakes or never will. That is just a fucking annoying personality trait.
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day
Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime
I usually hand out this book...they appreciate it
I didn't start this thread so that you can trash the less fortunate. I'm asking what you are doing to help those less fortunate than you. How you THINK they got there is rather irrelevant.

Well said. Moreover; I don't reserve my generosity, and aid to a specific time of year.did you miss the part chrisL where this is in leiu of giving other people gifts? i am not rich but i have roof over my head and enough to eat...i can make my bills most months and when i have a bit extra i dont mind giving it...and i think giving time is just as valueable if not more than money....
