How are you helping the less fortunate this holiday season?

Volunteering at your local soup kitchen or food pantry? Donating to a particular charity? What are your plans to help out those less fortunate than yourself this holiday season?
I'll be offering education to ignorant liberals on politics forums. For those brave enough to allow themselves to be educated; they will enrich their lives, and the lives of those around them.
What can I say? I'm a softy at heart...

Aren't you a "Christian" though?

Oh sorry, I think I was thinking about another poster when I asked if you were a Christian. Lol! Avatars sometimes look so similar as to throw me off on who I'm talking too.

Those who practice their faith give more of their money and time to help the poor, statistically speaking.

Atheists tend to be socialist who sit at home and vote for politicians who purport to force them to give more in taxes to help the poor, cuz they simply can't force themselves to do it.

Then there are atheists who are conservative. These are your Rand types who have silenced their inner voice objecting to not helping those in need.

As for myself, I plan on the food pantry.

I'll be volunteering with my aunt on Christmas Eve for a couple of hours at her church's soup kitchen. She is a Christian who actually walks the walks and tries to help as many people as she can. She's even invited people to her house to spend Christmas with us who had nobody or nowhere to go. She is a wonderful warm, giving, inviting, and generous person.

I'm closer to the latter. When I help others, I do it directly,; and on a person to person basis.

They are not the “less fortunate”. It wasn’t bad luck that put them there. It was piss poor decisions on their part. Calling them “less fortunate” implies that I only got lucky. I worked hard to get where I am.

And so to hell with those who have made poor decisions?

Guess what, I've made poor decisions as we all have. By the grace of God I'm still blessed.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating forcing you to give, like left wingers who want to incorporate the church and state together do, I'm merely trying to make you think.

So much truth to what you said...

Are you implying that these other poor decision makers aren't blessed. Are you thumbing your nose at that which God has bestowed upon them?

I didn't start this thread so that you can trash the less fortunate. I'm asking what you are doing to help those less fortunate than you. How you THINK they got there is rather irrelevant.

This year I came close to BEING a less fortunate. I will have to double up next year.

One year I had a coworker give $50 to another coworker who did not have enough money for Christmas for his kids. To this day he has no idea who gave it to him. He is doing really well now. Normally it is $50 to Salvation Army.

Christ gives us the example of the Good Samaritan to help those in need.

The two never talked. There was no judging the person in order to see if he was worthy. In fact, the two were natural enemies because one was a Samaritan and the other a Jew, yet he helped anyway.

Of course, this is just a wider parable about God's relationship to humanity. We were lying in the gutter waiting to die no matter how much money we may have in the bank, yet Christ showed us grace despite our "bad decisions".

There are those who feel the need to give, I say go make yourself happy, if that’s what does it for you.

All I’m saying is that post is offensive to me. I did not get where I am by just being fortunate.

We have to battle this kind of nonsense whenever we see it. The left controls the language. This is straight out of their playbook. We cannot let it slide.

i gave a liquor store 5 bucks yesterday , actually i gave a homeless guy 5 bucks and then i am GUESSING that he quickly gave it to a liquor store . Course i didn't watch where he went so he mighta went to a Grocery store or Fast Food . ------------- ------------- when i give to charity organizations i usually give to Christian based Salvation Army or a locally run Christian based soup kitchen .

Really? Good health is not good fortune?

Having the ability and smarts to make good money is not good fortune?

Having loving people around you to give it a token of meaning is not good fortune?

Do tell.

It's "offensive" to you? Quit being a drama llama. Just say you aren't interested in helping out others because you don't care and be honest at least with yourself.

I usually help them by berating them and telling them to get a job
