Hobby Lobby may close all of its stores

Gee, I wonder what would have happened if this company had been Muslim?

Crickets.

They have to provide health insurance for their employees?

Why are you okay with the government forcing employers to provide a BENEFIT?

Employer-sponsored health insurance is one of the biggest factors driving up the cost of healthcare in our country. So what do you suppose is the REAL reason why Obama is forcing it down employers' throats? It certainly has NOTHING to do with cutting the cost of healthcare that was the whole pretense of ObamaCare.

Because I am sick of paying for their uninsured workers with higher health care costs.

More american jobs, and an american company destroyed by Obama and his marxist policies.

>> By David Green, the founder and CEO of Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc.
>>
>> When my family and I started our company 40 years ago, we were working out of a garage on a $600 bank loan, assembling miniature picture frames.. Our first retail store wasn't much bigger than most people's living rooms, but we had faith that we would succeed if we lived and worked according to God's word.
>>
>> From there, Hobby Lobby has become one of the nation's largest arts and crafts retailers, with more than 500 locations in 41 states. Our children grew up into fine business leaders, and today we run Hobby Lobby together, as a family.
>>
>> We're Christians, and we run our business on Christian principles. I've always said that the first two goals of our business are (1) to run our business in harmony with God's laws, and (2) to focus on people more than money. And that's what we've tried to do. We close early so our employees can see their families at night. We keep our stores closed on Sundays, one of the week's biggest shopping days, so that our workers and their families can enjoy a day of rest.
>>
>> We believe that it is by God's grace that Hobby Lobby has endured, and he has blessed us and our employees. We've not only added jobs in a weak economy, we've raised wages for the past four years in a row. Our full-time employees start at 80% above minimum wage.
>>
>> But now, our government threatens to change all of that.
>>
>> A new government healthcare mandate says that our family business MUST provide what I believe are abortion-causing drugs as part of our health insurance. Being Christians, we don't pay for drugs that might cause abortions, which means that we don't cover emergency contraception, the morning-after pill or the week-after pill. We believe doing so might end a life after the moment of conception, something that is contrary to our most important beliefs.
>>
>> It goes against the Biblical principles on which we have run this company since day one.
>>
>> If we refuse to comply, we could face $1.3 million PER DAY in government fines.
>> Our government threatens to fine job creators in a bad economy.
>> Our government threatens to fine a company that's raised wages four years running.
>>
>> Our government threatens to fine a family for running its business according to its beliefs. It's not right. I know people will say we ought to follow the rules; that it's the same for everybody. But that's not true.
>>
>> The government has exempted thousands of companies from this mandate, for reasons of convenience or cost. But it won't exempt them for reasons of religious belief.
>>
>> So, Hobby Lobby and my family are forced to make a choice. With great reluctance, we filed a lawsuit today, represented by the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, asking a federal court to stop this mandate before it hurts our business. We don't like to go running into court, but we no longer have a choice. We believe people are more important than the bottom line and that honoring God is more important than turning a profit.
>>
>> My family has lived the American dream. We want to continue growing our company and providing great jobs for thousands of employees, but the government is going to make that much more difficult.
>>
>> The government is forcing us to choose between following our faith and following the law. I say that's a choice no American and no American business should have to make.
>>
>> The government cannot force you to follow laws that go against your fundamental religious belief. They have exempted thousands of companies but will not except Christian organizations including the Catholic church.
>>
>> Since you will not see this in the liberal media, please pass this on to all your contacts.
>>
>>
>> Sincerely,
>> David Green

Contrary to Hobby Lobbies belief, it takes 2 weeks for the sperm to make it through the vagina, through the cervix, then through the uterus, then through the filopian tubes to reach the egg and fertilize it, for it then to move to the uterus and attach....IT IS THE BATTLE of all Battles for a sperm to make it to the egg to ferilize it and the world's worse combat zone with one obsicle after another to stop the sperm from making it there....only about 12 of the strongest sperm make it in to the filopian tubes to try to fertilize the egg out of +250,000 sperm....it's a long road to the actual egg...and 'poisons' and obsticles, are released along the way to kill the weakest of sperm off, more that 99.9% of them....are purposefully killed.

the morning after pill, and the others mentioned, prevents conception from taking place, if conception has occurred, these pills don't work, thus the importance of taking them right away, after having sex.

He provides health insurance for his workers. Obamacare will mandate coverage for drugs that he doesn't want to pay for.

The plan he has now doesn't pay for those drugs.

What happened to the promise that you could keep the plan you currently have?

Imposing your religious beliefs on others, while demanding special treatment under the law, is not religious freedom.

And is not at all what Hobby Lobby is doing.

Nice try.

Yes it is. They are trying to deny their employees equal treatment under the law because that equal treatment includes a provision that Hobby Lobby's CEO believes is against HIS religion.

He wants to be able to flaunt a law that his BUSINESS is expected to comply with, by imposing his personal religious beliefs upon that law.

Er, so how does gay marriage work out, Carbine? Don't they have to impose that on someone to get get married? Thought so.

Gay marriage is not a religion. Gay marriage is a rights issue. No one is being forced to enter into a gay marriage.

LOL, you have it totally wrong. Hobby Lobby is not trying to impose its views on anyone. It just wants to be allowed to live by them.

On the other hand, the obama government is forcing its views on everyone and invoking financial penalties on any who do not comply with the agenda and beliefs of the great chairman moabama.

The left wing government is FORCING its views on everyone------------that, my ignorant friend, is a clear violation of the constitution.

Are you claiming that the government has no right to regulate commerce?

lolol

Hobby Lobby is already making abortion available to its employees when it gives them a PAYCHECK,

which can be turned into CASH, which can be used to pay for an ABORTION, and Hobby Lobby cannot in any way prevent that.

If Hobby Lobby is capable in good conscience of giving its employees the money to pay for an abortion, if an employee so chooses to use that money,

then there is no violation of conscience if Hobby Lobby provides insurance coverage that can be effectively redeemed for medication that Hobby Lobby thinks causes abortions.

Case closed.

More deeply embedding something which is driving up healthcare costs is not the solution.

The employer mandate was a sop to labor unions. It will ADD to the rising cost of healthcare.

Completely bogus illogic. I'm sure if you spent more than 2 seconds actually thinking, you would see the giant holes in it.

How so in a supply and demand market?
Please explain that to me?

If you are so unintelligent that you fail to see the difference between being forced to buy a product that violates your religious beliefs and one of your employees using money to do something immoral, I can't help you.

Not only that, but an employer may fire an employee who violates the company's moral standards. Obama and his apologists would probably like to stop that practice, too.

That would work if Hobby Lobby wasn't lying about Plan B etc..

They are lying to get their way and have people feel bad for them. That doesn't help me go to their side, doubt it works for others.

It will be a shame to see them go.

I guess the left would rather pay unemployment to the former employees of Hobby Lobby than to allow the owner his 1st Amendment right to freely practice his religion without interference from the Government.

I completely see the logic

Your paycheck, health insurance, vacation time, sick time all are part of total employee compensation

How an employee chooses to use her health insurance is her business. Some religions object to sterilization procedures. Should an employer be able to tell you you can't get your tubes tied? Same goes for her paycheck, can they tell her what she can use that for? Will Hobby Lobby deny sick leave if an employee uses the time to recuperate from an abortion?

The author of the piece is somewhat ignorant about Plan B. It is a contraceptive. However, the 5-day-after pill is an abortifacient. While the 5-day-after pill is not yet mandated, it is probably just a matter of time before it is if no one puts up a fight right here, right now.

Nevertheless, some religious people are opposed to contraceptives, not just abortifacients, and they should not be forced to pay for contraceptives against their religious beliefs.

You are permitting an extremely dangerous precedent by going along with this just because you happen to like this particular mandate at this time. I am not opposed to contraceptives, but I am very, very much opposed to government mandates forcing people to do things they would not otherwise do, particularly those that violate religious beliefs.

It is sickening to see people being okay with this.
