Hey Lefties....shouldn't we increase taxes on EVERYBODY in the U.S.?

GE paid no taxes; Goldman Sachs paid $14 million last year. The GAO reported in 2008 that “two out of every three United States corporations paid no federal income taxes from 1998 through 2005.”

Corporate Taxes as a Percentage of Federal Revenue
1955 . . . 27.3%
2010 . . . 8.9%

1955 . . . 4.3%
2010 . . . 1.3%

Individual Income/Payrolls as a Percentage of Federal Revenue

2010 . . . 81.5%

It would seem to me that raising taxes is not the issue, more so collecting them and closing the loopholes that allow these things to happen is a better approach. Personally have always felt that in order to benefit from a tax system you must in someway be a part of the nation that collects those taxes. Give you an example, if your a company that makes computers for example, and then employs offshore workers to make them and then seeks the benefits of this nations tax system to do that, in my humble opinion your company is "taking" from the American taxpayer. Having said that the reverse is true as well, if your a company that seeks to build and sale here, as much as possible, then you should get the benefits of a tax system that goes along with that. As for the poor and middle class, many are under the mistaken impression that the bottom 47% somehow pay no taxes because they don't pay or do not qualify to pay "federal income taxes" this does not mean they do not pay taxes, in fact the Federal Govt. levies taxes on may goods and services that are passed along to the consumer that that bottom 47% pay on a daily basis, a good example would be the Federal excise tax on gas. So perhaps the best solution is not to raise taxes, but actually do something about the bloated way in which they are collected , so that we all benefit. In my opinion though that will never happen if we as Americans can't remember one simple fact, the poor and middle class, as well as the rich are just as American as anyone else, and as such be they right or left, Americans should be the important thing here. not what side of the isle you fall on.

You make some great points....we all pay corporate taxes anyway because they are basically included in the price of the items sold by corporations...

Why is it socialists just want to go after "the rich".....why do they not want a flat/fair tax.......?

The USA already is socialist, just a most unfair and bought off version. Luckily the dems are working on it. A little reasonable regulation to protect citizens and a health system to save money and lives will do the trick.Obamahhhhhh...

When the top 1% has tripled their money while the non rich are sqeezed under voodoo, of course you raised taxes on the 1%...duh.

Republicans are trying to raise taxes on every American who works for a living and you want to bitch about liberals?

lol.

When you liberals have to really start PAYING for all your stupid social programs.....guess who will be bitching then....?

yes....when you have a huge underclass sucking off the gubmint you got socialism...

it's time to make everbody responsible working taxpaying citizens again....

Yes. Recend the Bush tax cuts. Demand a balanced budget amendment.

TAX! TAX! TAX!....socialism being the new world order and all.....

the average worldwide income is only $7,000.....and the world median income is only $1,700.......that means EVERYBODY in the U.S. is RICH....!

Countries with an average income near $7,000 include Mexico, Chile, and Latvia. They rank about 40th in the global income table.

As of 2005, people living in rich countries had an average income of about $35,000. The high incomes in these countries make the world average income four times larger than the world median income, which was $1,700 that year.

Average income worldwide is $7,000 - The Boston Globe
You want to make a basic iimprovement in this with little fuss and muss?

Simply stop giving the bottom 47% back MORE than what they paid in, in taxes. If you pay zero tax, you pay zero tax. You don't get more back than what you paid in. Currently most if not all the bottom 47% MAKE money from 'paying' their taxes.

I'm fairly certain we'd save at LEAST a few billion there.

A small but equitable cut in government waste.

Yes. Recend the Bush tax cuts. Demand a balanced budget amendment.
Repeal the bush tax cuts and watch overall tax monies decrease. Yeah, good plan. Balanced budget amendments are doomed to failure. All that happens is an automatic INCREASE in taxation to cover the shortfall.

Yeah, that'll be helpful.

So, you think it's right for Republicans to raise taxes on all working Americans? Or are you just lapping up milk at the rightwing trough?

That 1% already pay 39% of all federal taxes while 47% of Americans pay 0% in federal income tax. I'd say the 1% are paying their fair share already. When will the 47% pay their fair share?

Well on a personal level, I see no useful purpose in this pervasive "envy" that some seem to have because in the end we are all in this together, sink or swim, if we go down we go down together if we rise the same is true. Having said that its very obvious that some of the so called "wealthy" and "corporations" have abandoned the concept of American for the concept of dollar and have forgotten the concept that they are just as much a part of this nation as the rest of us, so that might be where you will find your answer. A good case in point would be, this, you remember in 2008 all the Wall Street Bailouts, and compainies going under, as well as the mortgage mess, while I won't argue the cause, in the past these sorts of things ended in a long march to Federal Prison or to Bankruptcy Court for these companies and individuals. Think about how many have met that criteria that the likes of Enron, and the Savings & Loan crisis were met with then compare that to the AIG's, and Goldman Sachs. I have always felt and still do that honest work and honest labor should ALWAYS be promoted and rewarded and there was a time in this nation when not only was someone who owned a company watched the bottom line they were also a good corporate citizen of the United States. Perhaps it's time those who wished to be again were rewarded and encouraged to be so and those who don't well, do not give them the advantages of the tax system that we Americans have set down for ourselves. Here is something thats a good read, its a study on housing, done at Harvard, and it's pretty good in my opinion and does give you an idea where people might be a little upset when these wealthy individuals and corporations seem to be not paying their fair share.

The rapid growth of household wealth in the United States has been accompanied by
drastic growing inequality. This paper discusses both wealth and inequality growth, examines demographic factors behind the growth, and analyzes housing’s role in it, using the Survey of Consumer Finances data collected by the Federal Reserve Bank. While aggregate household net wealth grew from $25.9 trillion in 1995 to $50.1 trillion in 2004 (both in 2004 dollars), nearly 90 percent of the net gains occurred only among the top quartile of households in the wealth distribution.

i never said we SHOULD raise taxes on all working Americans...how would Perry's flat tax option RAISE taxes for instance?.......what we really need is to cut spending.....as well as get rid of strangling regulations....

but like Bachmann i think every citizen should pay something.....even if it's just $5 out of their monthly welfare check...

I'd say that America is moving rapidly to wards Plutocracy. Most the people who are defending Corporate America and the uber wealthy are greatly helping the move to Plutocracy and furthering the demise of the Middle Class and true capitalism.

5 Benefits of Capitalism

1.Provides valuable goods and services.
2.Rewards hard working people and initiative.
3.Creates a higher standard of living for all.
4.Narrows the gap between common person and wealthy.
5.Provides opportunity to realize dreams and desires.

The Benefits of Capitalism

As our present capitalistic system has been effected by the will of Big Money, # 2 wouldn't apply to the working class. Number 3 is a situation that is deteriorating because of decades of flat wages. Number 4, is completely no longer true. And Number 5 is like a faded dream for the working Middle Class.

If we eliminated our high Corporate tax and undid the strangling Regulations......our country would BOOM......capitalism works at all levels when given a chance....

Screaming, when you have a chance , take a look at Defense vs. Domestic thread, it's really not just taxes, on a side note too while I agree somewhat in your statement, let me add something if I may, one is, when you look at the data, the adjustment may not be what you might think it is.

U.S. companies face the sixth- highest effective tax rate in the world, according to a study by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.

The tax rate for the largest U.S. companies between 2006 and 2009 was 27.7 percent, compared with a non-U.S. average of 19.5 percent, according to the study released today. Companies based in Japan, Morocco, Italy, Indonesia and Germany faced higher tax rates. Excluding the U.S., companies based in industrialized countries had an average rate of 22.6 percent.
U.S. Companies Pay World

That basically means we are 5.1% higher than the average, however, lets say for moment rather than dropping the rate you actually reformed the code, where you limited deductions for those who did not wish to participate in this nations economy in terms of employment, and enchanced it for those that did, then there would be little need to lower it to the point where your giving an incentive for those people who wish to keep shipping American industry offshore.

No, it's the very weathy who have found ways around paying their fair share for years and years.

They need to catch up with the rest of us.

Horse shit

They pay more than a high enough share considering ~50% pay no share of income tax at all...

But don't let that get in the way of your hyper-partisan bullshit

We don't have a revenue problem... we have a spending problem and a problem that nearly half of our citizenry has no stake in the income tax taxation game

Well if my income went up 275% over the past 20 plus years, hell why not pay some taxes.
Now those whose income jumped that far have so many tax deductions and loopholes they pay no taxes or a limited amount.
So don't start to make me feel sorry for those money scum suckers.
