Family of American freed from Venezuela calls release a 'miracle'

An American held in Venezuela for nearly two years on weapons charges has been released and is on his way home, with a pit stop at the White House.

Hard to tell, those charges can often be trumped up. It's good he's released. It's always good when American's get released and returned.

Brings the count to 8

Unless I'm missing something

- 3 basketball players from chinese jail
- 4 North Korean hostages
- 1 Venezuelan hostage

Unfortunately, one from North Korea was badly abused and died shortly after coming home

Is there a scorecard or something?

Agree 100% but what did our "leader" have to do with it ? Is he going to have another photo shoot?

In fairness, credit for it usualy goes to the president, after all blame does as well when they don't get released.

Unfortunately, this president is incapable of extending that credit when it comes to those released under other administrations. No one likes to see Americans detained in countries like NK and Iran, and other places, where they are held on what is usually bogus charges. They work like hell behind the scenes to get them released...and the families are often understandably angry and upset, and feel not enough is being done becauase, not enough really can be done. It's a tricky path and it leads us to the same question every time - do we pay ransoms or don't we? There is compelling evidence supporting either argument from the view point of if we pay ransomes it could lead to more detentions, if we don't it could lead to quicker deaths of detainees.

And you don't think what I said would prevent any nation from killing one of ours?

Good on Trump. Maduro now wants to talk. Much more good might come out of this.

more than likely, about oil.

Yup. The US/West still hasn't forgiven Venezuela for Nationalizing its oil. They were accustomed to having Puppet Regimes in there who did whatever the US/West wanted. Chavez really shook em up. But it looks like Maduro may be willing to work with em. His country has been punished mightily by the US/West. It's in economic ruins.
