Great Lakes Water Temp Way Below Normal. Cool summer blamed?
The Great Lakes have filled and are now almost back to historical full status. With that fill has returned the cooler lake temperatures due to the mass. Mid Western inhabitants are bracing for a very sever winter as the lake temperatures plummet.
The far below normal temperatures indicate that the lakes did not receive the warmth over the summer that we have seen in the last few decades. This drop is indicative of lower solar output in spectrums which warm water. Increase of rain (which was not warmed in small streams) and lake mass will also have an effect.
Many people who have lived for 70+ years recall a drop in the late 50's similar to this one where lake ice coverage was near 100% and they are bracing for what some of them are calling a repeat of some very cold and long winters to come. Its not just Lake Superior that is way below historical norms, it all five lakes in the region.
