Ollie, the recession came because of the actions of a GOP Congress from 1994 to 2006, with the help of compliant presidents and dems in Congress. To suggest it is all the dems fault is ludicrous.

The left controlled both houses of congress for 2 years.
Then they controlled both houses of congress and the white house for two years.
Then they controlled the white house and half of congress for two years.

Prior to that everything seemed to be working other than the growing debt. And it suddenly got a lot worse in the last 4 years.....

There are no spending cuts. That is why the deal is DOA in the House. Most likely scenario- the bill will be amended and sent back to the Senate where it will die.

The best deal for AMERICA is to go over the cliff and get the spending cuts and tax hikes.

How about we work on spending now, right now? We have had 4 years of the biggest peacetime deficit spending ever. It has done nothing. Our growth rate is about 2% and effectively nothing. Our debt piles up, creating an incredible hazard. In order to get the economy growing we need to cut spending. We dont need to raise taxes. Tax revenue is already the highest it's been in 6 years. It's the spending, stupid.
