Our gas has gone from a high of $3.199/gal. about three weeks ago to $2.199/gal this morning. The investigation into price gouging evidently has gotten someone's attention along the distribution line.

Nah, they always drop at this time of year. They were just about to announce record profits, if the price is high when they do that people really get upset about the gouging as it is now it is a dull roar, right where they want it. It will begin to rise again next month, just before Christmas travel time.

Usually after the Labor Day weekend, gas prices start to drop somewhat, but a whole dollar? For the past few weeks, we have been taking some day trips to look at the fall foliage, and the differences in gas prices in the various towns/bergs has been attention getting. Sometimes as much as 10 cents a gallon. Price gouging has got to be in this mix somewhere. Could it possibly cost that much more to deliver refined, processed gas to towns 20-30 miles away from each other to justify so much discrepancy in gas prices at the pump?

They were able to take advantage of the weather this year. If they were still at a level that people thought the gas was expensive when they announced their record profits they knew they would be in for a fight. They dropped them quickly before announcing and are dropping a bit more before they rise again just before the Holidays. Look for a 20-30 cent rise just before Thanksgiving....

I hope your prediction turns out to be wrong. We have to travel out of state for Thanksgiving week, and being abused at the pump for that pleasure is disgusting and price gouging at its worst.
