Donald Trump's Lawyers Ask for April 2026 Trial Date for Federal Jan. 6 Case

are you kidding? Who told you that....? The prosecution represents the people harmed, victims who also have the right for justice to be served.

justice delayed, is justice denied.

Also, under law, Judges are required to pursue a speedy trial, and not let justice be delayed, while still ensuring adequate time to prepare

The prosecution doesn't need to 'ask' for a speedy trial. Its a constitutional requirement unless there is a good reason not to.

/——-/ Bullshyt. All made up crap.

The prosecutors and grand jury thought otherwise.

And the indictments? Oh, detailed and damning.

There's testimony of Trump's own lawyer admitting that Trump tried to convince him to lie to authorities and not give back the docs. Page after page of classified docs seized at Trump's residence. Even an audio tape of Trump admitting that the secret documents he was showing off had never been declassified.

Ya know.....the reason your ilk avoid talking about the indictments?

Laughing......or, its the evidence that resulted in Trump's charges.

You know, the evidence that you refuse to look at, the evidence you pretend doesn't exist......testimony of Trump's own lawyer admitting that Trump tried to convince him to lie to authorities and not give back the docs. Page after page of classified docs seized at Trump's residence. Even an audio tape of Trump admitting that the secret documents he was showing off had never been declassified.

Do you really think that if you don't look at the evidence agianst Trump, we can't see it? Or that it somehow disappears?

Good luck with that!

So, to recap..Prosecutors ask for Jan. 2 2024--Trump's team wants April 2026?
Just not a chance--There is no way that this should drag out past election day..which is Trump's clear strategy.
The American people deserve closure on this issue. If he's innocent..let him be found innocent--and the whole thing put to bed.
If he's guilty, there's no way he should even be allowed to be President.
If he did win...after being found guilty...I imagine the term 'high crimes and misdemeanors' would be prominently mentioned in his impeachment.

Lawyers for former President Donald Trump asked a judge Thursday not to hold his federal trial on charges that he tried to overturn the 2020 election until April 2026, nearly a year and a half after the 2024 race in which he is the Republican front-runner.
In requesting the long delay, Trump’s lawyers cited the large volume of evidence they will have to examine—as much as 11.5 million pages of materials and testimony from hundreds of witnesses—as well as the historic nature of the case. Trump is the first president in American history accused of blocking the peaceful transfer of power to his successor.

Trump on Thursday night said he was canceling a planned Monday news conference where he vowed to present evidence of election fraud, saying his lawyers preferred to argue the case in court. Trump’s initial idea—continuing a pattern of aggressive public pushback against the growing criminal charges—was seen by some inside his team as reckless, possibly hurting his defense.
That does seem like a long time, but it appears the Xiden admin has turned over a bunch of stuff, they’ll need lots of time to examine it…11.5 million documents, 100s if witnesses…doubtful they’ll be able to get through all that it just a few months…I mean the xiden admin has been building this case to just get an indictment for three years

Actually, no. Its been building since about November. That's when Jack Smith was brought on as special counsel.

/——/ ‘Get Bad Convictions’: Alan Dershowitz Outlines Dems’ Strategy With Trump Indictments
Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz said Tuesday that the strategy the Biden administration and liberal district attorneys were using was to “get bad convictions” of former President Donald Trump ahead of the 2024 election.

“I predict there will be some convictions. I think the strategy is to get bad convictions, but to get them fast in New York, in Florida, in Washington, and in Fulton County [Georgia], then they’ll be reversed on appeal, but they’ll be reversed on appeal after the election,” Dershowitz told “War Room” host Steve Bannon. “That’s why everybody is rushing to get these cases tried. We now know they wanted it tried within six months in Georgia. They want a trial in January in Washington D.C. They want a trial in May in Florida. New York has been willing to put it off but they’re getting on the bandwagon too.”

We'll see how well Alan's predictions work out. Trump's own attorney general Bill Barr is no where near as optimistic:

And with 91 charges in 4 different jurisdictions, all of them being appeal and overturned seems wildly unlikely.

What's the big deal? Democrats tell us it's not a political witch hunt. Waiting for a trial would be a great way to prove that.

Given that you've already ignored the mountains of evidence of crimes by Trump, including every piece of testimony (even his own lawyers), every text, every picture, every document seized, every transcript, every forged document, every indictment in every jurisdiction, regardless of its support....

....do you really expect us to believe that there are ANY circumstances in which you could be convinced this isn't a 'witch hunt'?

Sorry, but you can't use evidence to convince people that don't use evidence.

Thankfully, you can use evidence to convince a grand jury!

FyI

Jack Smith is not the Biden Administration silly one! He is outside of the Biden Administration and is a Special Counsel.

That doesn't explain why you can't just wait. Does this so-called evidence degrade over time or something? If the cases are strong a little time won't do any harm.

Because there's a constitutional requirement for a speedy trial. And Trump is threatening witnesses. 'If you come after me, I'm coming after you!'

Both speak toward having the trial as soon as is plausible and reasonable.

Yes that’s when xiden got someone willing to do a political prosecution but the xiden admin has been conducting this investigation alone with the house dems since 2021

What political persecution? I think the words you're looking for are 'due process'.

Have you taken a look at those indictments? The evidence is detailed and damning. Testimony from Trump's own lawyer that Trump tried to convince him to lie to authorites and withhold docs. Pages of docs found at Trump's residence that Trump had lied and said were already returned. Even a recording of Trump admitting that the secret docs he was showing off had never been declassified.

Its hard to argue 'political persecution' when the evidence is that rock solid.

The speedy trial is to protect citizens from languishing in jail forever without due process, not for the government to ram through trumped up charges and persecute their opposition.

Democrats don't care when there is unequal justice.

Note that you don't actually try to argue that Trump is innocent of what he's been charged with.

Maybe you've actually taken a look at the indictments?

Trump was indicted by the grand juries on the evidence.

91 times.
