Do you know why the Right Winged, Republican FOX news is banned in canada?

Because the law in Canada forbids lying. It's such a shame on how they cowar behind the 1st amendment to spew their false bullshit.

Skeptic Money » Blog Archive » Fox News Banned From Canada – Law Forbids Lying On Broadcast News. - You make sense but does your money?

Maybe I will need to move to Canada!

America’s middle class battles for its survival on the Wisconsin barricades – against various Koch Oil surrogates and the corporate toadies at Fox News – fans of enlightenment, democracy and justice can take comfort from a significant victory north of the Wisconsin border. Fox News will not be moving into Canada after all! The reason: Canadian regulators announced last week they would reject efforts by Canada’s right-wing Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, to repeal a law that forbids lying on broadcast news.

They would have to change the law to let FOX news be broadcast. Sounds like a good law. Hey Congress – here is a law you can pass!

Canada’s Radio Act requires that “a licenser may not broadcast … any false or misleading news.” The provision has kept Fox News and right-wing talk radio out of Canada and helped make Canada a model for liberal democracy and freedom. As a result of that law, Canadians enjoy high quality news coverage, including the kind of foreign affairs and investigative journalism that flourished in this country before Ronald Reagan abolished the “Fairness Doctrine” in 1987.

We do need better news. Too bad it is legal to lie in the USA.

Harper’s attempts to make lying legal on Canadian television are a stark admission that right-wing political ideology can only dominate national debate through dishonest propaganda. Since corporate profit-taking is not an attractive vessel for populism, a political party or broadcast network that makes itself the tool of corporate and financial elites must lie to make its agenda popular with the public. In the Unites States, Fox News and talk radio, the sock puppets of billionaires and corporate robber barons, have become the masters of propaganda and distortion on the public airwaves. Fox News’ notoriously biased and dishonest coverage of the Wisconsin’s protests is a prime example of the brand of news coverage Canada has smartly avoided.

Because Canada is full of socialist pigs that hate freedom of speech.

Maybe this story will encourage a bunch of our liberals to move up there. They seem all giddy at the prospect of state sponsored media being the only voice allowed to be heard.

Well this is hilarious. A Report about lying when this one right here is an outright lie.
Get some correct facts before you post lies about lying.

Comical as you praise big brother and your side for the constant fabrications.

Then you post a bull shit blog as some sort of proof.

Are all of you mental midgets. Early money says yes.

Dayum, is the OP a sucker or what? :lmao:

Fox News went to court and won their right to lie in news broadscasts by claiming that it is all entertainment. Therefore, one should regard whatever Fox News broadcasts as entertainment. Some nations may feel that they would like news, rather than entertainment and lies, in their news broadcasts.

Fox News Wins Lawsuit To Misinform Public

Here’s the rundown: On August 18, 2000, journalist Jane Akre won $425,000 in a court ruling where she charged she was pressured by Fox News management and lawyers to air what she knew and documented to be false information.

The real information: she found out cows in Florida were being injected with RBGH, a drug designed to make cows produce milk – and, according to FDA-redacted studies, unintentionally designed to make human beings produce cancer.

Fox lawyers, under pressure by the Monsanto Corporation (who produced RBGH), rewrote her report over 80 times to make it compatible with the company’s requests. She and her husband, journalist Steve Wilson, refused to air the edited segment.

In February 2003, Fox appealed the decision and an appellate court and had it overturned. Fox lawyers argued it was their first amendment right to report false information. In a six-page written decision, the Court of Appeals decided the FCC’s position against news distortion is only a “policy,” not a “law, rule, or regulation.”

So, Fox and the other gladiatorical cable news channels were given the okay to legally lie right around the time of the Iraq War’s birth – when media lies coincidentally hit a peak in both frequency and severity.

And Fox News continues to use that right

You are the one as well as other lefties that is continuing to spread this lie.

Mr. Grossman reveals that WTVT actually did run the series largely intact – far from your allegations that it was censored for Monsanto: “A month after Akre and Wilson filed their suit, WTVT did broadcast what seemed to this observer to be a strong and effective three-part investigative series on the subject, produced by a different reporter, Nathan Lang. His series was hardly any different in substance from the versions that Akre and Wilson and the station had been battling over the previous year.” And what about your allegations that the appeals court gave Fox the legal right to lie? Not quite true. In an article published in Broadcasting and Cable on February 24, 2003, Dan Trigoboff states that, “The appeals court said Akre failed to state a claim under federal whistleblower protections. The court found that what the FCC has referred to as its ‘news-distortion’ policy—opposing the intentional falsification of news—has not been published or put into a necessary law, rule or regulation.” Not only did the court never declare that WTVT distorted the truth but rather it definitively determined that the law on which the original decision was based did not exist and that Akre failed to establish her case. Hardly a big conspiracy between Fox and Monsanto, and absolutely no evidence of mainstream media cover-up

Once again - AKRE FAILED TO ESTABLISH HER CASE !!!
Not that Fox won the right to lie.

Won't mean anything to these idiots though.

Brain Freeze?
Don't know about you, but I like to get as many viewpoints as I can on a subject.
It is entertaining watching how both sides spin a story.
Canada banning a station for their particular viewpoint is censorship pure and simple.

And the US left is cheering censorship. Last I checked, Canada and the US had different Constitutions............our protects free speech. Yea, even if you don't like what they are saying.

The US left is not "cheering censorship". That's just your hatred shining through.

The truth of the matter is that we have no problem with what FOX says. What we have a problem with is pundits passing of lies as facts. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but not their own facts.

I don't watch MSNBC either....I used to when Dylan Ratigan was on....because I really liked his commentary and his thought process, not to mention his unwavering ability to criticize across the board....Public sector, private sector, government, big business, Democrat or Republican. But he's gone now, so I never turn it on. I watch ABC mostly...but that's only because I like our local affiliate.

I don't frequent right wing or left wing websites either...in the car? I listen to my iPod.

No, truthfully....I get more information(disinformation?) by being on here. Not sure if that's a good thing or not....

Funny you say that, in this thread, the OWS parasites are not cheering censorship, when they are attacking a single news source, incorrectly asserting that they cannot broadcast in Canada due to Canada demanding truth in broadcasting, and they have nothing to say about networks that broadcast their own parasitic views in their news programs. They are cheering censorship of opinion matter that they do not like.

nitroz stop with the crap you're not good at it. You hate the first admendment and probably all of them......because you're a commienazimonarchist......I'll tell you what, I'm all for you bigf government control, as long as I get to be the guy in charge, otherwise take you statist ideas and go fuck yourself...

Smart folks those Canadians.

Everyone should know that Fox News corporation was sued for lying.

Fox fought the case and eventually won the right to lie. (sorry, there is no other way to say it) Fox news is the only news organization in history to do so. That would seem some indication of their need to lie. Of course they do it more than others too.

fox news lying court case supreme court

If that link does not work just google it yourself and you will have over 12 million hits to choose from

You are either a supreme idiot or a liar. Prove me correct. Why don't you pull out the specific language, in dicta or in the holding, that gives fox news the right to lie.

This should illustrate in spades why America is the nation of exceptionalism and Canada, however a super neat and beautiful country, is not.

We have a Constitution that recognizes, defends, and protects our unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Toward that end we have a bill of rights that allows us to say what we think, short of endangering somebody or trampling on his/her rights, and that presumes the people should be allowed to have all available information, both sides of every story, and all perspectives so that those who choose to inform themselves can make up their own minds.

The rights enjoyed by Canadians are assigned by their government and can be taken away by their government at will. And apparently that government considers it dangerous for Canadians to have the unique perspectives and all sides of the story that Fox News offers and nobody else does. I would hate to be denied access to information, right or wrong, and be considered too stupid to determine which is which for myself. I would hate to have to trust that government was allowing me all necessary information in order to make an informed opinion.

Fox News: Until 2004, the CRTC's apparent reluctance to grant a digital licence to Fox News under the same policy which made it difficult for RAI to enter the country - same-genre competition from foreign services - had angered many conservative Canadians, who believed the network was deliberately being kept out due to its perceived conservative bias, particularly given the long-standing availability of services such as CNN and BBC World in Canada.

On November 18, 2004, however, the CRTC approved an application by cable companies to offer Fox News on the digital cable tier. Fox commenced broadcasting in Canada shortly thereafter.

Fox News' Lies Keep Them Out of Canada

You know what is missing from the article and what is always missing from the discussion, is the examples of lying. Considering what ABC and CBS has done recently Fox should get considered a saint.

I guess you forgot to post "what ABC and CBS has done recently."

My point is quite simple. The OP is a lie. You are lying. Black Label is lying. And I've put up the proof.

You look like morons.

The only thing you have proven is that you are an idiot. Now tell me, is there a Canadian version of fox news up there?

Here is the info on how fox was pushing one of the politicians to alter federal law to uplift the anti-lying clause, it failed.
Because of this, Fox gave up on trying to have their own canadian fox news, because they would rather not have a show, than to stop lying,..

CRTC plan to lift ban on false news prompts political investigation - The Globe and Mail

Oh shut up. You don't have a clue what you are talking about. And you're digging a really deep hole for yourselves.

The committee to try to ease the regulations has been pushing it for 10 freaking years. This push started with a liberal majority before FOX even applied.

The CRTC's obligation is to protect our domestic services. Man you are thick as a brick.

Here ya go sparky.

A basic cable package in English Canada traditionally includes:

the major Canadian commercial networks (CTV and Global),
the English and French CBC networks, including Newsworld and RDI (the French-language Newsworld equivalent),
the provincial educational broadcast undertaking (if one is available, as not all provinces have one),
a community channel (locally produced public affairs and information programming and community events listings),
APTN, a network devoted to Aboriginal programming,
TVA, one of the two private French-language broadcasters in Quebec1,
local or regional independent stations such as Citytv, A-Channel and CH,
Cable Public Affairs Channel, which broadcasts parliamentary sessions and committee meetings, along with some political public affairs programming,
a similar channel broadcasting the proceedings of the provincial legislature,
American network affiliates of ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS and Fox2,
a mixture of Canadian and American special interest channels such as TSN, MuchMusic, CNN, CTV News Channel and Showcase3.

As a Fascist Liberal state, Canada insist on misleading and lying. Like Dr. Laura having her radio show banned in Canada because she mildly objected to homosexuality.

Then, of course, she lost her radio show in America after she objected to Afros being overly sensitive about the n-word.

The only way for Liberals to win debates is to prevent them in the first place.
