YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio —

The dinner was supposed to be a Democratic strategy session for an upcoming county election. But the mood grew darker as conversation turned toward the future of their party.

One by one, members of the Mahoning County Democratic Party poured out their frustrations: Just months after the presidential election, they felt folks like them were being forgotten - again. The party's comeback strategy was being steered by protesters, consultants and elitists from New York and California who have no idea what voters in middle America care about.

But worst of all, they said, the party hadn't learned from what they saw as the biggest message from November's election: Democrats have fallen completely out of touch with America's blue-collar voters.

"It doesn't matter how much we scream and holler about jobs and the economy at the local level. Our national leaders still don't get it," said David Betras, the county's party chair. "While Trump is talking about trade and jobs, they're still obsessing about which bathrooms people should be allowed to go into."

Others around the restaurant table nodded.

Since the election, Democrats have been swallowed up in an unending cycle of outrage and issues that have little to do with the nation's working class, they said, such as women's marches, fighting Trump's refugee ban and advocating for transgender bathroom rights.

..."Every time Trump so much as sneezes, we as a party are setting our hair on fire and running around like it's the end of the world," Betras said as the dinner wound down. "Most people around here don't care. They are living paycheck to paycheck, just trying to hold on. After everything that's happened, if we as a party still aren't speaking to them, then we are never getting them back."

You have to be flat out living in denial not to see this.

THe dems don't WANT to address those blue collar concerns. They consider those concerns invalid.

They want to keep pandering to their bases, ie libs and minorities.

Demographic shift will give them what they want, and they can win and ignore the interests of the blue collar workers forever.

That's the plan. The sooner these fools wake up to it, the better.

They have made it perfectly clear they aren't liberals.

The name of the game is to maintain division between people. It's busy work for the masses. If you and I are slamming each other then we can't pay attention to what is going on. What's going on is that the Democrats are all about faux privatization of the public education system. They are all about privatizing the government. They are all about invasion of privacy. They are all about implementing the free market. They love corporations.

But, the vast majority cannot see it.

This is how RACISM was created.

It's class based and they have everybody fighting over scraps.

Social Security, Medicare, Scholarships, Unemployment Insurance. you guys are fine with those benefits. It's the food stamps and medicaid you all get upset about.

Maybe we actually like our country and all it's faults and don't want to turn it into Europe or Canada. There is only one USA, and if we allow the Socialists to destroy this country, there won't be another USA to run to.

No, we'd just fix the things that are wrong with the USA.

the fact we have 33,000 gun deaths every year because the gun crazies write the gun laws is plain nuts. The fact we have 46 million without health insurance is just plain nuts. Most sensible people can see that. You guys have lost every national election since 1988 except for 2004, and even then, you barely won.

9. He said he’d surround himself with all the best and smartest people. You bought it. Then he put Betsy DeVos, opponent of public education, in charge of education; Jeff Sessions, opponent of the Voting Rights Act, in charge of voting rights; Ben Carson, opponent of the Fair Housing Act, in charge of fair housing; Scott Pruitt, climate change denier, in charge of the Environmental Protection Agency; and Russian quisling Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State.
10. He said he’d faithfully execute the law. You bought it. Then he said his predecessor, Barack Obama, spied on him, without any evidence of Obama ever doing so, in order to divert attention from the FBI’s investigation into collusion between his campaign and Russian operatives to win the election.
11. He said he knew more about strategy and terrorism than the generals did. You bought it. Then he green lighted a disastrous raid in Yemen- even though his generals said it would be a terrible idea. This raid resulted in the deaths of a Navy SEAL, an 8-year old American girl, and numerous civilians. The actual target of the raid escaped, and no useful intel was gained
12. He called Barack Obama “the vacationer-in-Chief” and accused him of playing more rounds of golf than Tiger Woods. He promised to never be the kind of president who took cushy vacations on the taxpayer’s dime, not when there was so much important work to be done. You bought it. He has by now spent more taxpayer money on vacations than Obama did in the first 3 years of his presidency. Working people pay into SS and Medicare every paycheck. Your wage is figured minus employee expenses like Unemployment insurance. It's something you indirectly pay for just like workman's compensation.

And how did those become "white" benefits anyways? You mean blacks don't collect unemployment, social security or use Medicare when they get of age????

And who isn't "keen" to taking Americans? You want to live in such a xenophobic place? You mean there are countries that have border control to keep people like you out? the hell you say.........

Since I am in my early 40's my benefit from all that racism in the past is exactly zero. My ancestors weren't even here during slavery, and we lived in NY the whole time, so we didn't get any zing out of Jim Crow. either.
