How can Republicans clean Democrat clocks all over the country? All it will take is a simple message: Republicans can govern. Democrats can't.

Think of all the contrasts available between adroit Republican governors and flailing Democratic ones. For one, the surreal spectacle of Wisconsin Democrats focusing resources on their third election campaign since the 2010 election to defeat Scott Walker's collective bargaining reform, even when that reform is no longer a real issue, shows that Democrats are in election mode every moment of every year.

This difference has shown up elsewhere in state and local government. Rudy Giuliani may not have been a conservative, but as Mayor of New York, he was a courageous and effective leader, which gained him admiration from conservatives. The contrast between Giuliani and Dinkins, the hapless Democrat cipher who preceded him, is stark.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is also not conservative, but he is an honest and courageous executive in the spirit of Giuliani. The contrast between Christie and Jon Corzine, his Democrat predecessor who has managed to mislay one billion dollars of investors' money, is stunning.

In 2005, when Hurricane Katrina blasted the states around the Gulf of Mexico, Democrat Governor Blanco of Louisiana engaged in crass political maneuvering against her rival Democrat Mayor Negin of New Orleans. Republican Governor Barbour, meanwhile, in neighboring Mississippi, acted decisively and effectively to protect his fellow Mississippians.

And for all you libs itching to type the name Bill Clinton, please keep in mind he was a mess his first two years. He got re-elected because he cooperated with an outstanding congress that helped guide this nation to some pretty good times.

Anyway....I enjoyed the article.

Suck on it libs.

This goes all the way back to the differences in Republicans and Democrats. Democrats are idealists who cannot accept blame. Republicans are more practical who will take on the load to ensure that at least something happens.

Indeed. Blue States are faltering...drowning is debt...threatening to increase taxes...thier own people leaving them in droves to the Stupid RED States...and the South by all Statist accounts are nothing but hicks and hayseeds that desreve no notice but to be laughed at.

WHO is laughing now?

You'd have to start by defining what it means to govern. If it's to manage and preserve the nation's resources for the benefit of future generations, both parties have failed miserably. What's entirely lacking across the political spectrum is a sense of accountability. At least the question is funny and should stimulate some real partisan "dialogue".

Well, Democrats definitely are behind in "managing and preserving" resources if that is the criteria we are using.

I wish I could see either side as a real winner. Entitlements have failed as much as a hands-off approach to Wall Street (derivatives are my concern). I can only hope you see something that I don't.

I would initially characterize resources as America's debt, credit rating, budget, etc. And the current administration has done an abysmal job. Obama and Democrats are destroying resources.

We are not going to get anywhere as a nation if we continually spend, raise the debt ceiling, and have to borrow more and more and more just to survive. A much more responsible approach would be to reverse these trends, which Democrats do not wish to do at all.

For the governed to have their say and to have a better understanding of the decisions made by those who govern, you'd have to go back to the original concept of states rights. Not a popular concept at the federal level - either side of the aisle. Otherwise accountability is virtually impossible and the notion of management is subject to continual redefinition.

One thing thats well documented is that those Socialist bastions of Scandinavia understand the principle in the OP.. Finland, Sweden both thru periods of socialist nirvana until they screw things up so badly that they swing Right long enough to back off the cliff edge. The conservatives ride in for a term, clean up the mess and then the destructive party starts again.

However in this country -- both parties pretend to be central moderates and in reality I can see much difference in foreign policy or personal/economic liberty issues with either of them. COULD BE -- that your perceived diff in being better adminstrators comes from biz experience. Nixon was a lawyer without much biz experience and he gave us a bunch of new Depts to contend with and a bloom of regulation.. While Clinton had administrative experience of governing and was a good moderate on govt growth and spending.

I think we need more parties to choose from and a lot less lawyers and socialists...

From the article:

Two years ago, when the BP oil spill was threatening the livelihood and safety of Americans, Obama was that nervous skinny man who spouted meaningless rhetoric, while Republican Governor Jindal was the effective executive who inspired Louisianans with his quick actions to minimize the damage.

Governor Jerry Brown ought to know as much about California government as any person around, and yet he has been unable to turn the state around. Indianans will be picking a new governor to succeed term-limited Mitch Daniels, but the sheer administrative brilliance of Daniels has preserved a state right in the middle of the rust belt.

Governor Nikki Haley brought jobs to South Carolina, something which the politically naïve might think organizations representing South Carolina workers would applaud, and the outgoing AFL-CIO president in the state, Donna Dewitt, smashed the governor's face on a piñata. (NOW, of course, immediately condemned this as an egregious mockery of the serious problem of battered women...just kidding!)

Kathleen Sebelius left Kansas in pretty tough shape and Sam Brownback is trying to repair the damage. There are going to be some hard choices.

Obama can't govern because it's taking him too long to clean up Pub worldwide catastrophe, against total Pub noncooperation and fear mongering. Gotcha. GOP= scumbags and dupes

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Yea just look at 2000-2006 where half the GOP members in congress where in corruption probes.

Democrats can't.
Is that why the federal government passed more good things for the country in 2 years under Democrats then the past 30 years of republican control?
Think of all the contrasts available between adroit Republican governors and flailing Democratic ones.
Yea look at walker hiring fellons. Look at rick scott purging real voters from the rolls, Palin who resigned because she was under half a dozen corruption probes, Romney who saw the shitties employment growth in the country or Hailey whose not under fire for being corrupt, or Brewer who disbanded studies into private prisons because it show they costs the state more (guess how much money she got from that industry).
Furthermore republican states have 30% more poverty 20% less GDP per capital, 80% more corruption, more crime, worse working conditions, more woker place accidents, more pollution, lower quality and attainment of education, less people with health care, More STD's, higher teen birth rates all despite getting more federal money then they pay in taxes.
Sounds amazing

Would one of those be wanting to eliminate the monitor of things that cause natural diastoers? I mean Jindal is so stupid he thinks we shouldn't even monitor hurricanes to know when they are coming. Obama got 20 billion from BP Jindal sat and bitcvhed
