Democracy in this country...

By definition, a republic is a representative form of government that is ruled according to a charter, or constitution, and a democracy is a government that is ruled according to the will of the majority. Although these forms of government are often confused, they are quite different. The main difference between a republic and a democracy is the charter or constitution that limits power in a republic, often to protect the individual's rights against the desires of the majority. In a democracy, the majority rules in all cases, regardless of any consequences for individuals or for those who are not in the majority on an issue.

What Is the Difference Between a Republic and a Democracy?

What we are seeing is power being increasingly concentrated into the hands of ever fewer people who would be overjoyed if people such as myself never had a voice in our government again and has no interest in protecting a single vote that might be cast against them. Call it what you like, your grand republic is becoming nothing more than a lousy plutocracy to the cheers of people who say they love freedom but want a single monolithic ruling party in this country.

Power (and the limiting thereof) is strictly defined in the constitution... it has not changed 1 iota

The thing is, no conservative is about to give away power if they have it in their frightened greedy hands. None of them have proven that one wrong yet.

Really??

Funny that it is the conservative groups, and to some extent the libertarians, that are fighting for the reduction of size and scope of the government

It is the liberal who strives toward larger government presence, power, and scope

And do not confuse a REP with a Conservative... not all REPs are conservatives (See GWB as a recent prime example)

I never heard this lie that all government tyranny is a leftist phenomena until Beck started selling it on his show and a bunch of dopes bought it cheap. If you heard it from Beck it's twisted bullshit and I am sick of the uninformed stating it as the gospel. A republic that does not respect and protect democracy is on the road tyranny no matter what kind of high sounding rationales they use to concentrate power into a single party or group of people.

Wrong, it's been around for thirty years. Remember Regan? Government is the problem.
What do you think Ross Perot was all about?
He got the largest vote ever, running as an independent.
What you are seeing is the collapse of Social Democracy, of which we should have never become.
What you are seeing beginning to happen, is a Representative Republic for all not just the few.

That is what we have now, the few (liberals),running everything in this country.
That silenced the majority for almost 50 years.
You don't see any conservative wanting to get rid of any liberal radio talk shows or liberal media.
What we want is equal views in our newspapers, schools, universities and strict constitutional Judges, not activists Judges.
Also equal representation in the Democratic party. Libs have taken over and do not allow conservative or moderates to vote for their view points or for their Representatives.
Newspapers needed to hire just as many people who vote republican,as well as democrat.
More than 90% of newspapers have employees who vote democratic. Newspapers would have not had to close had they done this.

Quit treating democracy as a system of government when it more of an activity (town halls , protesting, writing letters to representatives) that a free people engage in without fear. There is no such thing as a true democracy in our silly hierarchical race but we have often lost it or given it away to our great despair.

Really? They just want to shrink the influence the people have over them, to hold them accountable, the collective power of the people. The kinds of power than allows them to spy on you, kick in your door and drag you off to jail are not going anywhere.

We aren't a DEMOCRACY...that is your first mistake.

Why do you think the RINO's are getting voted out?
We in AZ did not want McCain again, but he was better than the crook that ran against him and still better that Liberal who ran for the Dem's.
It's going to take time to get things righted again. Smaller more manageable Government, balancing the budget and turning it back into the Republic it should be.
100 years of social democracy in both parties takes time,to start getting back on the right path.
Dem's need to get equal representation back into their party, with 1/3 Lib,1/3 Mod and 1/3 cons, like they use to have.

Or course we are not, never said we were. The point I made was that when any government does something without regard for the will of the people or not acting in their best interests it is a failure of the America ideal. Take the drug war for instance, it is not based on what the majority want or would benefit from but the interests of a powerful minority, a republic in action, how's that going for ya?

Talking out of your ass...

You do not have conservatives striving for any such thing.. though it is a nice scare tactic used by the left

What was that fight against Habeas Corpus and for torture not too long ago? Oh and who set up this domestic spying network? Who really likes the militarization of the cops? You don't have leg to stand on, due process is continually under attack from that direction.

Learn the rules of law for citizens compared to non citizens, the rules of the Geneva Convention, etc...

There is no domestic spying network and please learn the history in this country over the past centuries of the interception of enemy communications (whether it be thru horse carrier, radio, telegraph, etc)

There is no militarization of the cops

You are talking out of your ass... and trying to throw shit on the wall to see what sticks... well, those of us who actually like truth and do not cower to soap box blather will not fall for your crap and call you out every time

It was such a simple quiz and yet you get an F.

Who is USING the domestic spy network? I for one, I'm against drones for general domestic spying on average citizens. Could you actually make a case for any of this?

You have nothing but baseless sloganeering

These things exist, did not come out of nowhere and created grey areas where there were none before. We never made a distinction between POWs and enemy combatants but now we do, we had a minimal court to approve domestic wiretapping, it got circumvented, and the cops now have a lot of new toys courtesy of DHS that look suspiciously like adapted military hardware. Grey areas are another name for slippery slopes and republicans came down squarely on the side of removing due process from the equation. Tell us how you feel about the only organization that routinely fights on behalf of due process and equal protection, the ACLU, and then try to convince me that conservatives would ever give up an iota of their ability to throw anyone in a cell or miss a chance to make it more arbitrary.

No.. You CLAIM that the police is being militarized etc... It is nothing but pure unadulterated bullshit...

Try and look at home many times our military fought against foes that were not bound to a country in our past wars.... Tell us how many times that was... and tell us when the Geneva convention was applied to such foes if you show they existed...

Again.. educate yourself instead of flinging shit and hoping something sticks when you're not called to task

There is no ability to 'throw anyone in a cell' nor any attempt at 'making it more arbitrary'... yet another attempt at your typical ploy.. idiot

Go fuck yourself...

This doesnt resemble a democracy. Nor does it resemble a democratic republic. Lets just have the free market decide.
