In politics it all comes down to money and if the Kochs or Soros wanted to take someone out the considerable influence (power) their wealth accords them could be used to lean heavily in a variety of ways on potential donors to candidates they don't want around. But a fellow billionaire like Trump's got immunity from that kind of heat.
