College football National Championship - Clemson versus Alabama

Clemson destroyed Ohio St. Good players coach. They got a shot. But ALA has almost no weakness. RB Scarboughro? Unbelievable.

They should review for penalties. That last TD would be offsetting (defensive holding, illegal pick) resulting in a FG and likely OT.
If you don't believe that's important, consider Colorado winning the 1990 national championship thanks to a questionable penalty.

THAT is what a National Championship game should be like!

Congrats, Clemson. You earned it.

Congrats to Clemson from one that bleeds it. Love my Tide no matter. Took a Bama boy to beat us. ;) Not super happy with the 2 picks, but it is what it is, but Dabo plays dirty. That surprises me a bit. Kinda sorta.

Hats off to Clemson who was clearly the better team. Saban's reliance on a true frosh bit him in the a$$

No flags like the target hit on Williams. Not sure they were illegal picks. Bama needed to adjust the spacing of their defenders

Clearly the better team? They were about as evenly matched as you could ask for.

And Saban relied on his best QB. But if you think going 14-1, playing for the National Championship in a very, very close game is getting bitten in the ass, ask the other 126 head coaches out there if they would trade places.

Easy now, Alabama is better than needing a moral victory. Bama was just out coached and out played. The defense just got wore down for the Tide. Conditioning will be evaluated over the off season

Nick Saban’s bold decision to play a true freshman QB backfired at the worst possible time

Dieter KurtenbachJan 10, 2017 at 4:34a ET
Before this season, Nick Saban had never played a true freshman quarterback in his long and illustrious head coaching career.

But Jalen Hurts was a different kind of player, and while he didn’t start the season as Alabama’s starting quarterback, he won the job, fair and square.

Saban looked like a genius for going with the 18-year-old Texan at times this season — Alabama’s offense thrived as it made its final step away from the power game that might as well have been the trademark of a Saban team and fully became a modern, run-first spread attack, the kind that Saban hates to defend.

The results were undeniable: Hurts became the first Saban quarterback to throw for 300 yards and rush for 100 in a game, and Alabama’s offense was one of the best and most balanced in college football. Along with that all-time defense, you could easily make the argument that the 2016 Tide was Saban’s best-ever team.

It didn’t matter that Hurts had a poor game in the College Football Playoff semifinal against Washington — the rest of the Alabama team was so good the contest was never really in question.

But Hurts had a similarly poor performance in Monday’s CFP national championship game, and it’s hard to see how it didn’t cost Alabama a second-straight national title.

I am not worried about a moral victory. I find it amusing that you think you know better than Nick Saban who the best QB on his team was. Conditioning at Alabama is top notch. Clemson played the game of their lives. It came down to the wire.

Which of the other QBs on Alabama's team do you think would have been better?

Oh, if 13/31 for 131 yards is getting bit in the ass, what would you call 19/33 for 127 yards and 2 INTs? Because that is what the junior QB JT Barrett managed. Did Urban's choice to use a junior bite him on the ass?

Jalen Hurts ran for over 900 yards. More than all the other QBs under Saban at Alabama combined. Hurts finished the season with 31 TDs, which puts him at #2 on the single season records.

But you, in your infinite wisdom, think one of the other QBs would have done better? Which one?

Let me ask you one more time, which of the other Alabama QBs would have been a better choice?

I find it amusing that so many people think they know better than Saban, who is one of the best college coaches in history.

But please, tell us all which of the other Alabama QB was better than Hurts?

Thanks, that speaks volumes.

Why such a poor job (recruiting) of having more experienced QB on scholarship?

When you recruit over player then they move on. So, as a result, Saban had no bench to go too.

Oh, another screw up was letting Kiffin leave before the game. Shark sux

Nick Saban comments on Alabama QB transfers, their status for playoff. The news of two Alabama quarterback transfers didn't come as a major surprise this week. Cooper Bateman and David Cornwell have been in the program several years, so when a true freshman in Jalen Hurts wins the job, it almost becomes expected.Dec 8, 2016
