Washington (CNN)With hours to go before a midnight deadline for Congress to fund the government or shut it down, most Americans say avoiding a shutdown is more important than passing a bill to maintain the program allowing people brought to the US illegally as children to stay, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS.

. . . .

Still, 56% overall say approving a budget agreement to avoid a shutdown is more important than continuing the DACA program, while just 34% choose DACA over a shutdown. Democrats break narrowly in favor of DACA -- 49% say it's more important vs. 42% who say avoiding a shutdown is the priority -- while majorities of both Republicans (75%) and independents (57%) say avoiding a shutdown is more important.

Democrats have just committed political suicide.

They have no choice. Trump has destroyed and demoralized them so quickly they need new voters. As they found out in 2016 the homo, freak, black, and latino vote just cant get them over the finish line. Trump needs to stand firm on this and crush them for good.

I stated this yesterday but didn't provide the poll, considering the commentary that came with it when they presented it, you can tell some believes they are going to get burned on this.

My guess is the Independents might be most vulnerable, or, those who have say, mixed political views in the family but one of them is a military vet or government employee effected. Nothing hits home more than being denied your live, take it from me, it alters your opinion.

Democrats wanted this shutdown. It's just another one of their attempts to create a crisis they can blame Trump for. They know the media will gladly broadcast their propaganda for them and call it the "Trump Shutdown". Trump should address the nation on this at prime time. Reagan did this frequently, it's a way for the people to hear from their President directly without media spin.

DACA IS "worth it". If it's written correctly. And both side agree to that. It's just not something that should slide in on a 3 week EMERGENCY extension of the Govt operating budget.

And 5 weeks ago, everyone on the HILL knew when the budget was gonna run out.. Did they DO anything? NO. They did not.

It's total dysfunction and ineptitude. ALL because only 4 people RUN the congress and BLACKMAIL their caucus into complete compliance. Ditch the 2 party monopoly, Open up the voices and SEE the difference that can be made..

There aren't two parties. That is just a show for the masses. Race, like everything else is just a wedge.

It's worth it to Democrats. The illegals will be the only people voting for them, come election.

DACA rewards law breakers. Pay the $$$$$ and go to citizenship classes.

It’s about their parents. Guess you have not read the 14th Amendment.

Where once Democrats sat before the 'Schumer Schut-down' there will be...

Do children of law-breakers ever get prosecuted 20 years after the crime??

Here's your problem. Political leadership took a 3 decade vacay from responsibility on this issue. COMPLETELY ignored and demagogued it to death.. Did fucking NOTHING. Could have been FIXED in a week at ANY point in time by simply enforcing the existing law of PROSECUTING BUSINESSES HIRING ILLEGAL ALIENS.. Overnight solution.. No wall required.

And NOW -- you want to blame and infract 6 and 9 yr old "accessories to crime"..

Shameful.. That our govt is so inept and incompetent. And when it gets bad enough, someone has to take the blows for them... And shameful that your anger is directed towards them. AND NOT -- the political leadership that needs to be deported from Washington D.C.

Lots of them don't get charged even though they break the law.

Problem is the left wants to grant DACA/Dreamers citizenship while continuing the vacation on enforcing immigration law as we go forward.

It's a arbitrary and meaningless issue. We can't dilute confronting illegal immigration by allowing the nightmares they cause as dreamers, I am a dreamer, too. I dream we enforce immigration laws.
