Just underlines how far science has fallen the last few decades. I’m sure if he had added climate change in his paper he’d be up for a Nobel.

Used to be papers would have to be peer reviewed prior to publication. Now it’s just who can make the most outlandish claim.

“A new study published – yes, published – in an ‘American’ science journal (and accepted by three others) details how an experimental attempt to cross the transwarp barrier and achieve Warp 10 can have devastating and unforeseen consequences on human physiology. Wait… what? Okay, if you’ve gotten the sense that something might be amiss with this purported science experiment, congratulations: you’re already doing better than the editors of the American Research Journal of Biosciences. They just published this hokum without realising the ‘research’ is actually a thinly disguised storyline of Star Trek: Voyager, Episode 31, ‘Threshold’.”

This isn't about "science" falling, this is about fake "journals" scamming young scientists into paying to be published.

"American Research Journals" are not accepted by anyone who is actually in the fields they supposedly represent.

That doesn't stop plenty of people from referencing them to support their causes.

Sure. But everyone who actually matters knows that it's full of shit.

science journals being so easily duped by bullshit is all about science.

The journal wasn't "duped". They don't care about the "science". They care about the money.

They're a scam.

I'm sure you realize that it isn't about people who matter, it's about the public.

Just look at that "18 school shootings" in 2018 stat. When you break it down some of them took place at colleges, a few were just some shot out windows in dorms, one was a suicide, another was a guy who accidentally shot himself. hell one was in a parking lot of a FORMER school.

Again, all they want is their 5 minutes of daylight so people remember the "studies have shown..." and they don't care if the truth gets exposed because most people have already heard the bullshit and will never hear the correction/elaboration.

Members of the public aren't reading fake scholarly journals. They're not reading real scholarly journals either.

The only people who read scholarly journals are academics - and they know which ones are real, and which aren't.

they are the ones that get fooled when all that is quoted is some "study", and they never hear the rebuttals and retractions.

It’s all agenda driven.

No, it's financially driven. Those journals charge the authors quite a bit of money to be published.

I am pretty sure the only people the "American Research Journals" reject are the ones whose checks don't clear.

Fake Star Wars-inspired research paper published by several "predatory journals"

Fake Star Wars-inspired research paper published by several "predatory journals"

Not all scientific journals are created equal. With the advent of "predatory" journals that seem legitimate but function essentially on "pay-for-publish" economies, some commentators are claiming we are facing a looming crisis in science. One journalist set out to test the credibility of several journals by writing a fictional research paper inspired by the science of Star Wars. Four journals fell for the joke and published the clearly absurd paper.

Predatory journals have become the scourge of academic publishing over the last few years. These bogus journals seem like legitimate sources but often lack peer-review procedures and will publish any paper if the author pays a fee. A major, two-year investigationrevealed in early 2017 found that dozens of journals accepted a sham scientist onto their editorial boards without any investigation into the applicant's background.

Similar recent "stings" include a dog getting appointed to seven different medical journal editorial boards and asham cancer research paper, riddled with intentional errors, that was accepted and published by scores of journals.

Why does this remind me of what the left always say about man made climate change " all the scientist all the journals...blah , blah blah"

.

by open access, non peer reviewed, anti-vaxxer wacko journals. not by peer reviewed respected medical journals.

nice try though.
