EIA expects nine new Gulf of Mexico natural gas and crude oil fields to start in 2022
In our June 2022 Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO), we forecast that new fields coming online in 2022 will account for 5% of natural gas production and 14% of crude oil production in the U.S. Federal Offshore Gulf of Mexico (GOM) by the end of 2023. We expect that GOM natural gas production will average 2.1 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in 2023, down 0.1 Bcf/d from 2022. We expect that GOM crude oil production will average 1.8 million barrels per day (MMb/d) in 2023, about the same as in 2022. Currently, no GOM fields are scheduled to start up in 2023.
During 2021, 15% of all U.S. crude oil production was produced in the GOM, and 2% of U.S. natural gas production was produced there. In our STEO, we forecast that eight new fields in the GOM will produce both oil and natural gas by year-end, based partly on data from Rystad Energy. We expect a ninth field, which will produce only crude oil, to start in 2022.

Its called inflation... Inflation raises the cost of everything.... Sadly the dollar just doesn't buy what it did just two years ago....The price per barrel has been higher but the price at the pump has not. Perhaps there are dynamics that are unrelated to the amount we are sucking out of the ground at play. Just a thought...
US oil production steadily dropped from 1985 till 2009. It has been rising ever since, barring economic and weather catastrophes. There is crude of all thicknesses and grades... the best places for valued crude to refine has been placed off limits for drilling... also we are using more oil than we did just a few years ago when we were able to frack for natural gas....
There is a leftwing war on fossil fuels and that's why gas is up at the pump....
Biden and the left are playing games with the facts... we are not energy independent like we were just two years ago... Biden has been placing rich oil deposits off limits for drilling just like Obama did....First the topic is destroying US Offshore Oil Production, not high gas prices.
Offshore production has not in any sense of the word been destroyed.
Texas refiners have been using heavy sour crude since we were friends with Venezuela. They switch over to the Canadian slurry, and now all that new sweet WTI is being shipped out of state for refining!
