Clinton will be remembered as a good, but not a great president. Obama along with Bush II will predictably not be the worst, but certainly in the bowels of the two-term presidents.The only dispute about Reagan is he will be in the very elite or the very good. Right-leaning historians will assess him as the former and left-leaners the latter.

What do you base that on? What did Reagan do that was so notable?

Let's look at the top three according to MOST sane historians, conservative and liberal, agree upon. (They all agree these are the top 3, they just disagree on the ranking.)

Lincoln- Saved the Union, ended slavery.
Washington - Won independence from Britain, established the Republic.
FDR - Got us through the Great Depression, won World War II.

So Reagan's great accomplishment was? Um. What?

Getting us out of the 1981 Recession he caused trying to control inflation. meh. Not so much. He bitched about Carter's policies and continued them.

"Winning" the Cold War? Except he really didn't do that, either. The USSR/Warsaw Pact fell because 300 million Not Russians got sick of Russia's bullshit. Reagan had nothing to do with it and even turned a blind eye when Russia smacked Poland around.
