The US asked the Kurds to help fight ISIS. The ratio of fighter deaths, 8 Americans and over 10,000 Kurds. What do you think the American death totals would have been without the Kurds?
The troops who fought next to the Kurds have come out against Trump's incompetency and his betrayal of the Kurds. I would guess that most fighters who were involved in the ME would stand with the Kurds, versus a draft dodger who knows nothing about what the Kurds meant as an ally or didn't care..
Trump got rolled by Turkey, they got everything they wanted. Trump caved.

The US never "asked the Kurds to fight ISIS!" They were already fighting them and the US simply offered to supply them with arms and ammo and help set up air strikes against their enemies.

What I find interesting about McRaven is that, after completing BUDS, he never seemed to be part of a team or take place in any operations. He has a medal for combat service but none for Valor, not even a Purple Heart.

As someone who spent a career in the military, I find myself wondering if he wasn't what we call a Ladder Climber. Doing all the right things and kissing the right butts to get ahead while doing little or nothing of real effort or valor. A politician in uniform.

It says his father was a career air force officer. It also says nothing more about him and I'd guess he retired as a Light Colonel because he didn't play the right games to get his Eagles. That would teach his kid what he had to do to not make the mistakes of his father.

So, IMHO, I don't find myself all that hung up on anything McRaven has to say, especially since he was such a sycophant of Brennan.

But, if we don’t care about our values, if we don’t care about duty and honor, if we don’t help the weak and stand up against oppression and injustice — what will happen to the Kurds, the Iraqis, the Afghans, the Syrians, the Rohingyas, the South Sudanese and the millions of people under the boot of tyranny or left abandoned by their failing states?

If our promises are meaningless, how will our allies ever trust us? If we can’t have faith in our nation’s principles, why would the men and women of this nation join the military? And if they don’t join, who will protect us? If we are not the champions of the good and the right, then who will follow us? And if no one follows us — where will the world end up?

President Trump seems to believe that these qualities are unimportant or show weakness. He is wrong. These are the virtues that have sustained this nation for the past 243 years. If we hope to continue to lead the world and inspire a new generation of young men and women to our cause, then we must embrace these values now more than ever.
