SAT, ACT, GRE, LSAT, etc scores are often dismissed because their correlation to grades for any one individual is low, only about 0.2 . what is seldom discussed is that those same scores correlate about 0.7 for a group of 25 students, and over 0.8 for a group of 100 students.

intelligence matters, and although any individual may under or over perform their scores, most will succeed in close relationship to their intelligence. whether it is measured or not.

SAT scores are ONE measure of academic potential, but are heavily influenced by cultural factors such as the presence of two parents in the home. I suspect that that many HBC's offer a four year academic experience to students who would otherwise first need to attend a community college. As such, their comparison with elite universities is somewhat invalid.
