Before the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School took place, two things were predictable:

that another mass killing was inevitable, given the increase in their frequency over the past year, and the fact that no measures had been taken to prevent them
that right-wingers would see in such a dreadful event an opportunity to promote their paranoid vision of a perfect America as one where every citizen is armed to the teeth, and trembling in awe of their vengeful God
The bodies of the 27 people -- most of them children between the ages of six and seven -- killed by Adam Lanza on Friday, December 14, had yet to be returned to their families when the right-wing noise machine went into gear, blaming public education and a purported dearth of firearms for the tragedy.

Yet, even as right-wing pundits continued to name gun control as a reason that the killer took so many lives, producers at NBC's Meet the Press were unable to get a single pro-gun senator to appear on the show the Sunday after the tragedy. All 31 gun-loving senators who will have seats in the new Congress were invited, according to executive producer Betsy Fischer Martin.

Here we offer seven examples of the stunning lack of compassion and twisted logic expressed by right-wing leaders in response to a slaughter of children by the son of a gun enthusiast.

1. Ann Coulter: Everybody should carry a concealed firearm. The killings took place in the morning, and by 11:07 a.m., Ann Coulter, the publicity seeker whose big, bad mouth gives the little black dress a bad name, was touting concealed-carry laws as the answer to America's massacre problem. 2) Getting a gun should be like getting a car. You should be licensed, insured and a background check should be done.
3) Waiting periods.

Incidently, we aren't talking about "criminals". Until the shooting incidents, Lanza, Holmes, Loughner, Cho had no criminal records. (I think Cho was in the legal system because of his insanity).

These were crazy people who just shouldn't have ever been allowed to buy/get guns, but they were.

Why is it unhinged to suggest that this massacre should encourage people to learn how to defend themselves and obtain the tools they need to do so?

Because, honetly, anyone who thinks this would help matters much is a little deranged.

No, it is not going to stop untill we have some sane gun laws.

The genie is out of the bottle, and no one is going house to house to search for these war weopons. So how do we get them off of the streets?

First. Pass laws that you have to have the same license to own and carry one of the assault rifles as to own and carry a fully automatic rifle. If you are caught outside of your home with said weopon, with no license, then the gun is confiscated and destroyed, and you go to jail, and get a felony count on your record.

Second. Make it the law that you have to store any and all guns in a manner that criminals cannot get at them. You store your guns irresponsibly, and someone takes them and commits a crime with them, you own the crime.

Third. Recognition and help for those suffering mental problems early in the problems, not after a horror like this.

Mud, the NRA has resisted every sane law to control the proliferation of the assault weopons. They have actively promoted them being disseminated among the general public. Sounds good, feels good but in the end it doesn't solve the problem. And when killing sprees by loons continue with them using other weapons? Well, then we'll just ban those weapons. Surely, that will solve the problem.

Inch by inch, one by one ... all for our own good. And so many of you are just fine with it.

banning weapons meant for the military would greatly reduce how deadly these rampages are.

Frankly, I'm willing to meet you half way. If I had my druthers, ALL private guns would be confiscated, no exceptions. There's really no good reason for you to have one. But life is about comprimise.
