China has refused Ukraine’s request for a deferral on its $30.8 billion debt, according to Sohu. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, through his ambassador to China, asked Beijing to extend the debt repayment deadline and ease the debt burden, citing financial difficulties.
According to the publication, the Ukrainian leader also hinted at potential issues regarding the Taiwan Strait and North Korea in the event of a refusal. China viewed these statements as panic-mongering.
China explained that the national debt cannot be written off, and Beijing’s position is to adhere to the spirit of the contract. China demands timely repayment of the debt without any unjustified delays.
According to Sohu, Ukraine is on the brink of bankruptcy: the national treasury is empty, and inflation is skyrocketing. Zelenskyy has already appealed to the U.S. and the EU for help, but Trump refused to provide funds, and the European Union is in no hurry to fulfill its promises. China concluded that Zelenskyy’s dreams of debt forgiveness will be shattered.
